I have been playing MNC since its open beta in late 2010. I have accumulated over 700 hours of play time if you combine both MNC and my SMNC play time. Most recently, however, I have been enjoying an action-oriented MOBA game called Smite, which is much like MNC, from a developer called Hi-Rez Studios. Playing this game has shown me the faults of Uber as a developer and what a game in the hands of more committed developer can be. There are 3 aspects that struck me as the most crucial, as Hi-Rez excels in these whereas Uber has done miserable at best. 1. The matchmaking 2. The overall balance of the game 3. The presentation of the game I feel like Uber will never make a successful game until they show us that they are capable or committed enough to fix these glaring issues with the game. It's surprising how much more of a complete game Smite is compared to MNC, as Smite is still in closed beta, while MNC is already out.
First, had you done your research, you would have known that Uber was forced to release early by steam. Second, I think SMNC has excellent graphics and art style, the UIs are slightly clumsy for new players, but not bad once you get to grips with them. Third, I kind of agree with your general sentiment, but it's something that has been iterated 100s of times across these forums, you making another thread doesn't achieve anything. Uber knows the problems, but it's got to the point where some of them are unsolvable now (i.e. matchmaking only has 20 odd players to work with at any given time, by the looks of the populations.) Finally, Uber have heavily involved the community in balancing and I don't think (in SC) that there is one pro who is absolutely above all others.
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/30/super ... ibution-f/ I'm assuming that you're referring this link. After reading it, it coincides with nothing of what you said. Uber basically states that they messed up and tried to patch things up, making it even worse. Even months after its release, there has been no significant improvements to the aspects that I am talking about. Even though SMNC was released early, it initially had a respectable community which Uber could have in turned improved upon, had simple problems been addressed from the conception of the game itself. An interactive tutorial would have been greatly appreciated by newcomers, who were probably turned off by how confusing and difficult the game was. This would have also helped out long-time players, because they would be playing with a generally better pool of players. Your second point is irrelevant, as I never even talked about the graphics or the UI, which I find as one of the lone bright spots in this game. Lastly, your last point about involving the community and balancing was, in my opinion, a disaster. From what I have been able to tell from the balancing forums, no one has a stern grasp of what needs to be done to improve the quality of the game. I feel like Uber should have just taken the general consensus of the forums as suggestions, considering it's primarily their job to have a balanced game, as is the the case with numerous other MOBAs.
LOL trying to call out him out for not having done enough research... How ya doin MS? Let's play SMITE sometime
