So the one class I've never really used is assault, I've recently really been trying him out and I'm really having a hard time choosing a build that works for me.

I've tried a bunch of stuff out, I've read a bunch of the strat guides on here and still I can't find that perfect build. People in the forums here seem to say that ACC isn't a necessity. When I run no ACC it seems like only half my bullets land at close-mid range and at mid range I can't hit ****.

I also noticed when I was running gold armor that I was losing 1v1 to assaults that are using gold RoF or clip size and when I was shooting at a heavy that I just didn't have the firepower to drop them in a single clip or fast enough so they couldn't kill me first.

Another thing people say is that gold RoF is the same as silver. I don't think this is true, just my opinion. I know the devs said some stuff about frame rate issues and stuff like that, but doesn't that just mean that when **** is really hitting the fan and you get a little slow down it will affect RoF but any other time there is a distinct difference?

Before I go any further I'd like to say I AM TERRIBLE with assault, sure I've had some rounds where I've gone 20-0 or something like that racked up 35-40 kills with a few deaths but that is against complete freaking randies 100 levels lower than me. I'm decent with all the other classes ( other than sniper) I've gotten uber streaks with most of them, an all time great, 60+ kills in a round but god damned, put me in a round with decent players as assault and I get destroyed.

I have the most success with Gold RoF, silver acc and bronze clip size and all of these seem to go against what all the pros seem to suggest...

Help a brother out, what am I doing wrong?

You should watch some videos. I know Xenonex (youtube.com/xenorich I believe) has some nice assault videos up. I think I have a couple (not sure) and I'll definitely upload some more. Just try to find people who do well with an assault (not just get a good score, actually play well) and try to learn a few different playstyles.

yeah, you know what, that's pretty much all the advice I needed. Learned a lot actually just from a few of his vids.

you have to find the endorsments that work for you
everyone tends to play each class diffrently.
some good standard assualt set ups would be.

    gold armor
    silver rate of fire
    bronze skill

    gold skill
    silver rate of fire
    bronze armor

nomatter what set up you decide you like the assualt should always be used as more of a hit n run class. try to not go head to head with gunners tanks but ambush them from angles where they dont see you coming. and if you end up face to face jump fly and backpeddle to gain the advantage.

now once you get better you will learn some more intracacies of this class. but i think this is some good basic advice to get you started.

Rely on assaults skills and his gun. Not just soley on his gun.

    Stick and move!

A tip that helped me improve bigtime: If a fight isn't going your way or you can tell you will lose it, run like hell. Charge in the air to cover an enormous distance, or if you have the health throw a bomb at your feet then jump and blow it up at the same time to fly across most of the map. You know how Gunners will jump and spin their gun so that they don't need to sacrifice their speed for their firepower? You can aim down your sights in the air (while not using your jetpack) and you will go no slower, but still have tighter aim.

Yeah um xenos videos are okay i guess, if you like watching obama with a jet pack(kidding , kidding).BUT my video's are coming soon to a computer near you ill clear some stuff up.

    Assaults dont NEED ARMOR
My current favorite build to run is
    Rate of fire
    Accuracy
    CRITICAL

anything else is terrible just like shammas.

Everyone here will give good advice on how to play assault.

My videos should be pretty self-explanatory, but if you have any specific questions, please ask and I will try my best to help.

    Amen.

Use Armor, RoF, and a good bronze endorsement. If you want Acc, use it. I love bombs, so I use skill pill. Some people like crits. You can take so many shots with armor though, and it's the best way to fight tanks and gunners. A tank can 3 shot or OHKO with charge 3 against a no-armor assault. I have a vid on my youtube channel if you want to watch it.

I don't play assault. Hell I only play support. I'll give you some tips from a support POV though. The grenade launcher can be a nuisance since you can fire it from across the map, out of airstrike range and bounce it around corners. Most supports are now running a gold RoF endorsement so ur not going to take the turret out like this. If you persist, the next thing you will see is a juiced support coming after you.

Kill the support first, by moving ur grenade aim a little, or bombing him out of cover and gunning him down. those bombs can be a real bitch. Can't airstrike em like a freeze trap, and they can really jam up our plans if they are placed right.

The Assaults mobility is a huge advantage. One of the few pros that can get out of a firebase's range once it's started firing at you. Infuriating.

The headcrab is especially nasty. Don't be so hasty to detonate it if you get a stick though. Some of my buddies who play assault take extra joy from letting you run around with a timebomb on your head until they decide you've lived long enough. Or until you've taken their bomb into a crowd of bots or next to another pro.

Play like a TF2 scout. Spam bombs and charge a lot to move around the map quickly and pick up all the speed pickups you can get.

Like what everyone else is saying, it's more you have to find your niche more then anything. Do you wanna sit back a little and pick off Pros with Acc or you want to be a rival to other Tanks? I have two builds meant for close range combat and a longer one.

    Close Range Combat:
    Gold:Armor
    Silver:Rate of Fire
    Bronze:Skill Regen

The Gold Armor allows you to take more hits, and being in the grit and gruff of battle, you WILL get hit, and allows you to have a LVL 1/2 backstab from an Assassin and still survive, though not with much health but enough I think to run away. Rate of Fire just gets your bullets out faster, and when you are in close quarters, having more bullets in the air is never a bad thing. Finally, Skill Regen helps you with your Damage Output. Whether you are Charging, tossing a Bomb out for a Headcrab, or Flying to shoot someone out or getting to another platform, they all come back a little faster and help you survive.

    Ranged Combat:
    Gold:Critical
    Silver:Accuracy
    Bronze:Health Regen

Now, who doesn't love 'random' Crits? With this build, it's pretty much guaranteed that you are going to get Crits in what seems to be like at least half the clip, and it's supposed to maximize the number of Crits you can get. Just make sure you buy his Passive Skill at the start of the match to help with more Crits. Accuracy, you have decent enough sized reticules, though having Gold is amazing and can be switched for Crits if you feel the need be. Lastly for the Bronze Endorsement, I have health Regen. I was thinking of Armor for this slot, but realized it isn't that great as a Bronze because it only gives you +25 HP. While with Health Regen, it helps get your natural Health Regen come back faster and fill up faster, and I'd rather have my 150 HP come back a little faster then my 175 HP which takes a little longer because it's the normal rate AND has more to recharge. Besides, this is a ranged fighter, so you shouldn't be balling out with him anyway, that's what the other build is for.

This is my personal preference of Assault, but yeah, hope this helps you decide what you are going for. BTW, getting random Crits to where you can outgun a Gunner? Priceless.
