Well......they did send it on it's way, so physics still apply's.

It was right at the start so it shouldn't have perfectly hit my planet.

often you can do it way before the planet is on any kind of correct route.

In anycase this is a gameplay question and realism isn't going to help at all here.

it seems pretty obvious to me the fun factor from waging wars over hallieys and tug-of-waring a planet overthrows realism in this case.

Maybe there will be some rules in the future about this, coming with better orbital movement, change orbit and so on.

For example, what happens when you launch a moon to smash another moon, but that moon has its own engines and moves away? Will you miss, will you still hit?

I agree. The only way to treat realism in PA is to treat it as non-existent.

And invading an already moving planet and attempting to kill Halleys to stop it is THE most exciting thing one can attempt in PA.

which i did tons, back in the day where it would make the planet pick up a new perfect circle orbit at the distance it was from the sun upon Halley destruction.

Which wasn't a bad thing, but there has to be a solution that feels a bit more acceptable than it just suddenly stopping. Maybe it taking up orbit around it's next waypoint? (Sun or after that the target?)

And what do y'all think if on, let's say, a 3 halley moon, only destroying all of them causes the smashing to cancel, otherwise it just slows it down?

So destroying the first buys time to get to the second, and on and on.

I'm just trying to go for pure fun here.

Depending on where the planet is in it's smash cycle it should either smash albeit less inaccurately or it should be affected by the gravity of the body it is nearest to and either be flung out of play where it would freeze to an icy ball or it could find a new orbit.

That sounds like the perfect solution to the issue. Why was it taken out?

i don't think it was code, I think it was just the game defaulting to this.

I think game play wise it is more interesting if destroying the planet stops it in its tracks.....However it is highly problematic which is probably why it behaves as it does at the moment. If the planet stops what happens? Should it start orbiting whatever its closest to that has more mass etc...?

Shouldn't matter, as long as it's kinda logical and consistent. And of course, FUN!

According to physics the planet would either spiral towards the sun or be slingshotted into outer space.
I'd prefer just a slow spiral motion towards the sun (maybe give time to rebuild the wrecked halley?).

I also think the sun should be an option to send a planet to in the first place, but that idea has already been broken down by lots of people already, a shame.

I believe I have this working in PTE. If you destroy an enemy halley during a planet smash the smash will stop.

How does the planetoid behave once this has been achieved? What are its new orbital parameters?

It tries to find a best orbit at its new position, same as if you canceled the smash.

Should also work if you build a halley to counter their control (I think).
