I can imagine as galactic war get implemented, it would be required to transport units over far distances (even transport materials from planet to planet). Thus i suggest "hyper-gates" (or warp/quantom/wormhole-gates, FTL boosterpads whatever you wanna call it). These so called "hypergates" can be built in space, to launch units from medium to far distances (however this is not a unlimited range!). Closer distances must be sendt by other means like sublight engines. Now if you only have 1 gate without any "starmaps" you can only send a unit to a random destination. but if you have used some sort of telescoperadar and plotted a point you can send them directly (this way you can either specifically plan your empire or just go for rapid expansion). After you have sendt unit you can start construction on another gate to open up 2-way travel. This idea is meant so we will have large spacefleet battles, but to make unit logistics count more, giving room to "outsmart" or "out-move" your enemy. as well as sending resources to other planets.
Except that at this stage all the info we have about GW is that it's only going to string together a lot of smaller skirmishes with no connection between them except that it effects events within the GW setting. Except there are no space fleets, or even any space combat outside of the Orbital Layer. Also you should edit your title to reflect the fact that you are talking about Galactic War and not regular gameplay, as we already have a really long thread for that. Mike
