I was just thinking about the solar system in a typical game.

if we had to probe space, or unknown objects with orbital based units, could it result in good game-play? Such as: if there's a random metal planet tucked away in the system, it could be found and seized in secret. Wherein the discoverer can wring his hands and scheme as he mobilizes to secure the asset.

What do you think? Its mostly like an undiscovered map-setting, only with interesting goodies to find in this type of battlefield(s).

Pretty good idea IMO but(!) it is most unlikely that this is will be the way how it works, because most players want to know which planet types are present in their solar system from the beginning without scouting it.

Maybe only planets will show up in the FOW (fog of war) but not all the asteroids and sats, etc

I like this idea. As long as the fog of war can be toggled before the game starts much like FA I don't see anything wrong with this.
