Planetary Annihilation made my PAX 14

I had an amazing opportunity today to play with a couple of Uber devs in a shared army 3-on-3 casted by TheWrongCat. It was an absolutely awesome planet-melting match -- firing the Laser while under heavy nuke bombardment took a good amount of teamwork to pull off. I'd like to thank Uber for setting up a great booth, the casters, our intrepid boots on the ground reporters (@oathalliance), and the last (but first in my heart) minute patches to fix the build and save the day.

The game was smooth as butter, even with area patrolling planets full of avengers and gunships... I'm going to have to seriously consider switching to a PC.

Well remember that waaas just one server being hosted on a server computer so that computer had eight times less of. Load, which means more power to your server. Client lag would reduce a lot with a better computer though

I... wasn't? That's just the truth I just didn't want him to get a new computer and be suprised when the server doesn't rum as smoothly. Im fully expectant that we'll get there eventually (and the time dilation will definitely help make the issue less noticeable)

Fair enough, but if you've played the OSX build -- and I'm not saying this in a negative way because I know it's all a work in progress and a matter of priorities -- but I find that I have to restart it pretty much after every match. The Windows build was glorious.

FWIW, my MBP isn't underpowered either: 16GB RAM, SSD, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, Intel Iris Pro (see propaganda here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/gaming/iris-pro-graphics-starcraft-video.html).

Really? Maybe you should duel boot mac and windows! (can you even do that? I've never tried.)

I sometimes put vegemite on one cracker, and peanut butter on another cracker, and then make a little cracker sandwich.

Avengers and gunships don't exactly cause problems with area patrol. Try the same number with ground units - or even worse: fabbers - and it's going to lag again.

Trust me, it wasn't. I had 5 adv air factories pumping out air fabbers which then assisted the factories. Then I forgot about it for about 10 minutes. There were no issues.

Please read again. Air and orbital units are entirely unaffected by the area patrol issue. Their path finding is extremely cheap and simple. There were some generic issues which also affected these in the past, but they have been long resolved.

The lag is caused by ground units patrolling, since their path finding is far more complex. They also tend to collide often, also something which can't happen in the air layer. Ground fabbers patrolling make the issue even worse, since they also have issues with unreachable goals - yet another problem air born fabbers can't even have.

1,000 air units patrolling - no problem at all.
300 Dox patrolling - server is starting to sweat.
50 fabbers executing area command with unreachable targets - server is going down.

I realy should go sometimes to these game events, sounds a lot of fun.
Only if i ask a free day off at my work and i tell them its to a game event....... wel lets say they dont understand.

Don't tell them. If you have personal time accumulated at work, and legally you have at least some, then take it.

If it were me, and I hadn't requested a week off or been absent in about 6 months, I would tell them I needed this row of days off. If told they would not approve them, I would let them know in advance I would be absent for those days despite it, they can take appropriate disciplinary action but if I haven't missed a day prior they sure as hell can't take any action all in 1 go over that.

But it helps, and you have to pay attention to this... it helps if you NEVER tell them it is a gaming event.

I hope someone recorded that game, sounds wild!

Surely for release Uber will go all out on the servers?
