Some time ago i had the idea to see if i could find a settings combination that would create a planet without any resources on it so i could use it as an online playable commander battle arena. Basically the rules would have been self enforcing as you could build what ever you want - or could with only the commanders resources...
I soon discovered that planets with negative radii were not accepted by the server, so i was looking for a 'legal' planet that would still have no resources...
However so far i haven't found such a combination and the recent update broke all the interesting planets i found (and i will be on vacation for 2 weeks, which means the ones here will probably not work anymore once i come back). That's why i wanted to share some interesting planets i found in the short time i've been fiddling with alpha v 51464, feel free to also share yours in this thread.

    Planet 1: Almost there
    Seed: 16204
    Radius: 0
    Hight Range: 10
    Water height: 40
    Temperature: 50
This planet is the closest i've come to the goal of no resources, only one line of 3 mexes.

Planet 2: Fair Low Resource Map
    Seed: 16714
    Radius: 0
    Hight Range: 10
    Water height: 38
    Temperature: 50
This planet is interesting because it has only two 3-in-a-line mex fields on directly opposing poles, would probably make for fair low resource skirmishes.

    Planet 3: Waterworld
    Seed: 32723
    Radius: 0
    Hight Range: 10
    Water height: 60
    Temperature: 100
This one is noteworthy because it's the only legal full water planet i came across, however, as i wasn't really looking for that maybe there are a lot more like it, it's an easier criteria then no resources obviously.

Pro Tip: Select the Seed Slider and use left/ right buttons to fine-tune seed numbers...

Water planet games don't seem to start.
I wondered what would happen if you did.
Guess PA keeps trying to calculate starting positions, but is not able to find one?

Interesting, seems you are right, i never tried playing it myself but obviously it won't load...
Maybe one needs to give it a little bit of land...

Makes sense, I don't think I've ever seen a starting position that wasn't centered on land.

If you go into the generation file you can un-comment the lines which removed the mex density. Server might not let you play the planet but it's worth a try.

I tried changing the resources-value in the user-data-file that pa saves the planets in, but doing so makes no discernible difference.

Not to mention that the server would surely ignore those settings anyway...

This is because they are looking for land to put you on. This will change as the game starts to play better with just water units and we'll let your commander land in water.
