In my short time with MNC I have seen several problems that are small. Because MNC is such a great game and a lot of work has been put into it (seriously this game is FANTASTIC especially for the price) small blemishes like these look big. Problem One:Players are not adequately introduced to their class. This is what I want to focus on the most because it is quite possibly the most important. New players get to play as Assault and while the current tutorial does get you introduced to the different bot classes it doesn't teach you too much about prioritizing and simple methods to be more efficient with your attacks. That and you only play as assault. Other classes not only play differently that assault but are designed to go after bots, turrets, players or some combination of the two. This also bugs me because it was one of the few flaws mentioned by Angry Joe. Plus Problem Two:Players cannot communicate tips well to new players I find that voice chat is underused. It is a great tool that when used properly helps teams take out turrets or scout out enemy defenses. The same goes for team chat. Now I tell my team what is going on and what I'm doing in hope that i get some response or that I'm helping the team. I use the chat function however to go: "WTF how did that happen", "Nice kill I respect it (but I wouldnt run those endorsements)", or "Good game, Nice teamwork" That is it. which leads to... Problem Three: New people often have no idea what to prioritize in battle unless they go to the forum This is the end result that makes games not fun for me and more fun for the enemy team which leads to... Problem Four:Players shun people who pick certain classes. This is what fires me up about the state of this game. People become angry at newbies that should be receiving help but do not have the means to. When I started playing Assassin my first day it was great because I read the Shadow-Sutra. I was effective and to this day I still am. Other assassins are not because all they know is what they see in kill-montage videos. I'd like to hear ideas on the flow of and possibilities of a more comprehensive tutorial.
Ohgodpleaseyes. One thing that turns so many people away from this game is that they have no idea what they're doing when they first start, and as a result they do humiliatingly bad. A game like Call of Duty can get by without any directions because let's face it, a bad player can have no problem doing well. But with MNC a more in-depth tutorial is needed to give players a helping start against those with more experience.
Imo, the opening tutorial is just for the basics of MNC. It has nothing to do with the Assault himself. I think the problem is players/people don't feel like reading, because there is a section that runs down the whole game. You may not be playing during this but the info is there. Another thing is that all 6 Pros can be played in a totally different way and still be as effective. I just don't think it's really needed. With any game these days if you want in depth info just check the internet.
We've talked about doing this. It's not out of the realm of possibility but it's a ton of work and we're short staffed. Not only that, you want a tutorial on how to play classes as well as how to play against classes. Which doubles the work. So, in conclusion... I can neither confirm nor deny the coming of more comprehensive tutorials.
I see. Well it is nice to see its being considered and I hope that someday it will come to pass. I would like to keep this topic open in order to discuss the things that could be added to the tutorial as well as addressing the minor issues with the game.
am i the only person who clicked no? the reason i said no is there is no point, a bad player will not become a good player just cos of the tutorial. I played the tutorial, thought assault sucked and played as tank for most of time, until i got owned by a decent assault so i tried out assault, now i love assault. So i guess what i am saying is the tutorial is pointless, practice is the only way to learn a class and to become a better player. Also if you need help there is always youtube.
i totally agree, new maps would be a better thing to spend the time on also just thought the best thing would just post the words killing bots wins games and people might take the hint
If it means more maps I could settle with a few more class based tips. My biggest fear is that too much of the playerbase will become the kind of people who dont ask for help and keep pressing on and hurt the team.
Like I said, people don't read the in-game info. The Protips have plenty of tips regarding the overall objective of the game. There is even a Protip saying the only way to bring the moneyball shields down is to escort bots to the enemy base. Not exact but to the point.
If you were to make additional tutorials focus on overall objectives. 1. Kill bots. No really, kill bots. 2. The Annihilator is important. Really important. 3. When the shield goes down, shoot it every so often even if you are about to die. Like give a pack of bots and tell people which weapon to use to compare damage rates on bots for every class. No juice allowed. You sorta do this in the existing tutorial but the focus on why bots are important is missing.
