Anybody else having issues of landing a unit on a moon that is orbiting too close to another planet body? I've played two games now where this has happened and I can't change anything, it's a viable black hole.

I have the same problems, also with Halleys not crashing but going into some perpetual elliptical orbit around the sun and the target planet.

It is a known issue that has to do with the way the interception algorithms work. There is a certain point where the computer just cannot aim the object far enough back to intercept the planet's gravity well. I think this is true in RL physics also (must research...), so they might introduce a mechanic where the object doesnt use a slingshot and just heads straight for the target.

Hopefully that patch brings in some orbital stuff too :D

Currently it does some weird things with the slingshot anyway, often a transport or planet has some ellitptical orbit and suddenly jumps to another point in space onto another elliptical orbit around the target.
