Given the size of the map, and what I would currently consider to be a little unwieldy control scheme for trying to make scouts patrol I was brainstorming some variations on the patrol command: Painted patrol: This would allow the painting of a map area assigned to a single patrol command. Any units which reach this patrol command would then attempt to patrol the painted area to constantly try and maintain visibility. As the battlefield changes, paint could be applied to the area either positively to expand it, or negatively to reduce it in areas you no longer need visibility on, for instance if your base has grown into the area. Tethered patrol: This would allow a combination of move -> patrol which would then cause the unit to patrol in a circular motion with the circumference at the movement command, and the centre of the circle at the patrol point. This would make it fairly simple to expand the patrol route either around a base as it expands with 2 quick commands, or allow the quick patrolling around the edges of a known enemy base.
Yeah, nice. I like the idea of painted patrol and just having them independently patrolling randomly rather than following a set route.
