I'm new to these forums so I apologize in advance for any errors that I make. I just downloaded PA from steam and when I tried to run it, a window opens that says: The game will not launch and just closes when I press OK. My computer is relatively old (About 4ish years) and I have heard it might have to do with the graphics card, However, I have never had any problems launching any other games including Planetside 2 or League of Legends with no lag on medium settings. Does anyone know if I can fix this error or perhaps something I have to update in order to play PA?
Yeah that is typical of you having an out of date GFX driver. PA is built using 'OpenGL' for graphics, rather than DirectX like most other games- which makes it a bit more sensitive to driver versions. If you could run a 'DxDiag' and post the results here that would allow us to check what your using and what you need to do to sort it out- usually just get the latest driver for the graphics card you want to use. To get a dxdiag, type 'dxdiag' into the search box in windows (press start and it's at the bottom if on Windows Vista / Windows 7), and press enter. That will bring up an information window about your machine. At the bottom is an option called 'Save All Information'. Click that and save the file somewhere easy to find. Then all you need to do is upload the file here (or if it won't let you- you may need a minimum number of posts before you can, copy paste the content into a post here instead).
Your problem caused by outdated drivers: Code: Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Driver Version: 8.632.1.2000 Driver Date/Size: 8/18/2009 02:15:58, 4059648 bytes You need to download and install latest legacy drivers from AMD website: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows 7 - 64
Greetings, I am having the PA.EXE crash on load up as well. game ran fine after the last up date for two or three days then crashed during multi-player. Now it crashes every time I start a game. single player, sp vr AI, or multi-player. IT lets me play for about 30 seconds to 4 mins then...crash. I attached the dxdiag as requested. Any help would be appreciated. Obs
Your problem likely related to limited RAM (4GB only) and whatyou can actually try it's go to Windows settings and set page file / virtual memory size to 12GB: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-virtual-memory-size#1TC=windows-7 Though keep in mind with 4GB only you shouldn't try to play on systems with many planets because it's won't work good.
The system was only 2 planets and no moons. I have an extra flash drive so would setting up a 16 GB readyboost help. I will give the page file increase a try too. thanks Obs
