I took an opportunity to remove myself from the immersion of the game for a moment and just observe for a bit. It's still so damn cool to see stars moving beyond the planet, and to see a moon in orbit revealing itself from behind the planet you're working with... particularly if something is being built or battles are occurring there and you can see it ... it's just damn cool. Only going to get better, too - which is awesome. Thanks Uber!
They have a hit here, that for sure. They had me at, the sun rising on my base and the shadow map followed, way cool.
Yeah. Planetary Annihilation is an awesome looking game – and it's only going to improve from here! There's many visual improvements that are yet to be added to the game. Plus there's lots of performance improvements that are going to be added which will allow players to up their graphics settings which will make it look even better. Gonna be awesome!
PA is like the game I always wanted but didn't know I wanted. =P I've loved the idea of an RTS with a spherical map since Spore, but... Spore was Spore. I'm psyched to see what else Uber can do with it. ^^
This is a supernova: Yes, it did just light up an ENTIRE GALAXY Space is awesome. Ergo games with space in them are awesome. Have fun putting your minds back together after having been blown.
It also seems to be lighting up those other galaxies behind it. Possibly the lighting or exposure was just different in the second frame.
I think I actually prefer the old swirly terrain to the new blended terrain. I won't complain though; this game really has come a long way!
Agreed. The problem with the swirly terrain is that it's more complicated to generate procedurally. It's definitely not impossible, but it's only a high level aesthetic thing. In the context of building up the entire game horizontally, it would be in the last 10% of the last 90% which is the last 10% after the first 90% (it makes sense, I promise).
