I respect what Uber is doing with PA. That's why PA will be my final PC game. I'm tired of playing PC games (mostly first person shooters) on servers run by clans that don't bother to have admins (or even clan members) playing on it and dealing with hackers. Why these clans even bother renting FPS game servers when most to all of their clan doesn't even play is beyond me. There's no point to playing games with amazing graphics on the PC platform when you have to continuously deal with being headshotted (aimbot hacks) or seen behind walls (wallhacks). While I know that there are hackers on console games, it's a much harder platform to hack, as evidenced by significantly fewer hackers on the console platform. So my next gaming platform will be console-based (probably PS4). And PA will be my last game for the PC.
I don't know why you would limit yourself. You can get a console and keep PC gaming. I have always done both and plan on continuing that.
Yeah go to consoles but be sure to get a new XBox with Kinect so the hax0r can also see your rageface while owning you. In all seriousness, cheaters are a part of nearly every sort of online gaming, always was always will. Consoles arent immune to hacking. Harder to do? Maybe but I guess the typical console player just doesnt want to mess with it. Once enought people are seriously interested in using cheats on consoles it will get worse there too. The only tough part dealing with this is finding well kept servers with good admins and maybe playing a game with rather small but good community. Besides PA, TFC comes to mind, sadly it had no successor. That would be a kickstarter Id give a 4 digit sum to *hint hint*
You know console games get hacked too right? One nice thing about PA is that we should be able to make it ultra secure compared to a shooter. Shooters almost always need some kind of client side component to them that's hackable.
I guess I've been lucky. I've only experienced hackers a few times ever. since I started playing games.
You're pretty much saying you give up on endless options to creating and taking care of your own server on an fps game in order to jump on a peer to peer based system that is not immune to hacking or cheating and has less customizability over all XD
CPU architecture really shouldn't have much of an effect. [ON-TOPIC] What's the point of this thread? Planetary Annihilation is only tangentially related here - it's an attention-seeking thread, moaning about the state of PC gaming. It has more relevance in the Off-Topic forum. It should probably be moved *there. *here, if it's been moved and you're now reading this.
Guys, just because the thread has PA in the title doesn't mean its not off topic. PC vs. console shooter experience is unrelated to PA.
This. I've only seen like one or two hackers ever. Personally I don't think I'm lucky, I think other people are too quick to throw out the hackusations, but who knows.
I only think I've legitimately met a hacker like twice. People are VERY quick to call people a hacker if they're remotely better than you. I was even hackused playing CG one match, and when I pressed the accuser on how exactly I was, he couldn't give a reason other than that I was better than him. It's really not as big a problem as you think. But play more than shooters, dear god. PC has so much more in the way of interesting indie titles and just generally more variety.
I think I've seen about three hackers in over 1,000 hours of SMNC. One was a Veteran who could shoot unlimited falcons without reloading
Implying PC/Mouse + Keyboard isn't the optimal setup for shooters? That feel when Falcons dealt some damage.
I'm pretty sure that the amount of hackers you run into doesn't only depend on the platform you play on, but also which game you play in particular. smnc is probably not as infected by hackers as other games are. I've heard of some games where hackers are a major problem, but never actually experienced it for myself. So which games have you played recently OP? You might have been unlucky (or too quick with your accusations ). Also, I personally wouldn't want give up the (compared to a gamepad) more direct and precise controls of Keyboard and Mouse either. I remember stumbling across one of those promotional videos for some smnc-hack, which showed a veteran aimbotting. In Blitz. IIRC, he didn't even make it to round 3
I'm in this boat and after playing against Hentai I'd be reluctant to call anybody a hacker at this point. I have been called a hacker a few times in Airmech. That's about the extent of my hacker experience. From what I understand hacking is more of an issue in CS. But I don't really like CS so it's not an issue for me.
