Greetings, I'm an original kickstarter of PA, and (apparently) stupidly converted my key to steam on sunday. Installed PA on Steam, I run it and get "pa.exe has stopped working"

I've attempted to Verify the integrity of the game Cache
    I've completely reinstalled.

I've attempted to run the PA.exe file from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Planetary Annihilation Folder
I've Attempted to run the PA.exe file from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Planetary Annihilation\bin_x64 Folder
I've attempted to run the PA.exe file from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Planetary Annihilation\bin_x86 Folder

I've also tried to run all 3 of these elevated as Administrator.

I went to ubernet Account Management to download the Standalone Version....but can't seem to download it because my Key is now a Steam Key (Sadface!)

Have Uninstalled(and reinstalled latest...even beta) Graphics Drivers....
Have Attempted to Reinstall my .Net Framework.
Have Attempted to update my DirectX....Says i'm current

    Attached is my DxDiag!

Thanks for any help in Advance!

    Attached Files:

cwarner7264, Jimbot and RisenStar like this.

So, Noticing my Sound card Drivers were 2 Years old. I attempted to update them.

The date went backwards! i now have sound card drivers from 2010. Proceeded to Disable my Sound Card and use onboard sound. No Go.

Went and installed on my Surface Pro 2. It works. *giggle*

I went into the Windows Application Logs and this is the only thing i can find when it drops.

"Faulting application pa.exe, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x53a0a904, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000000000, process id 0x1688, application start time 0x01cf9016f75cb5fd."

Seems like a lot of the issues cropping up have been a result of outdated video drivers. Your drivers are dated 06/12/2014 so that shouldn't be an issue. Aside from programs (driver-specific ones, AV, etc.) or overlapping driver installations, I'm not sure what else could be causing that. The exception that you posted is an access violation according to the net. So anything from permissions to registry inconsistencies. That's approaching territory where I'd completely reinstall the OS and start anew to save myself the headache. Anyone else have some insight into the situation? The post has whet my curiosity.

You should be able to download the standalone with a steam key. I think you may have to link accounts or something (I've never done it so not sure).

As for the technical problems, this sounds like a good one for @SXX

    Update:

I suspect something was "toggled" on my account...and when i go to:

    https:// store.uberent.com/Download/Install?titleId=4

I can now download the Standalone Client. (I absolutely could not download from this same site last night.)

    Standalone Client Runs Successfully.

    What gives Steam version!?!?

Possible problem caused by Steam overlay, try to play without it:
Right click the game in your Library -> Select Properties -> On the General tab, uncheck the box next to Enable Steam Community In-Game
