After seeing some ppl wonder why their game keeps crashing and seeing they use 32 bit os to run it i think its time to explain why they are crashing. 32 bit operating system 32 bit os can only use about 4gb of RAM. In reality this is closer to 3.5gb of RAM. This means even if you have for instance 16gb of RAM it will not use it. It will only use ~3.5gb and not more. On top of this 32-bit Windows only uses max 2gb per proces meaning if a proces uses more than 2gb it crashes. 64 bit operating system 64 bit os however support up to 16 exbibytes which is quite alot and i believe even supercomputers arent able to reach this amount of RAM. For normal users this means your 16gb will be 100% available to your os. Bottomline is if you are crashing and you have a 32 bit os then that 32 bit os is most likely the reason for your crashes. Even with only 4gb of ram its worth to have a 64 bit os. 64 bit has no disadvantages except that some really old hardware may not work properly. If you have 4gb or less then it might be time buying more RAM. Its not as cheap as it used to be (bought my 16gb for just 70 euro's ) but trust me it really makes a difference and is still alot cheaper than buying a new cpu. Not just games but windows in general works alot better with more RAM.
There is more important point you're not posted: by default PA on 32-bit OS can't use more than 2GB RAM. There also two great topics everyone used 32-bit OS might want to read: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/beta-error.51695/ https://forums.uberent.com/threads/crashing-on-32-bit-windows-heres-a-guide-to-help.51990/
I'm still not clear on why Uber is supporting any 32 bit OS. At best, when the game is better optimized, you'll get a very limited game. And if a machine can't run a newer OS, it'll never run PA very well. Not sure why they'd bother.
In it's current state it is constantly going way beyond 2GB for me. Trying to play this on 32 Bit is probably no fun at all.
Once they add a adjustable unit limit it should be playable for 32 bit systems (since you can then limit it to small games).
I doubt units add a lot to memory usage, seriously. You really need look at UberWilliam's post about 140,000 trees: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/units-not-appearing-after-a-crash.51817/#post-793735
You know, just having 140k trees on a planet is awesome by definition. What we need now is a flamethrower unit.
