Why not have an orbital layer for the sun too and have a unique set of units for it like gas giants will have. A solar flare initiator would be nice units for that layer, similar requirements to building haleys on a moon e.g. x amount of initiators required to make flare. Simpler stuff for a solar orbital layer could be energy generation of uber proportions with which you can run your particle accelerators to convert energy to mass for that late game rush to the fabled 1 million units.
They also should add that you can fling your planets into the sun.....yeah chances are if you have built the needed rockets to move a planet you have control of it and the econ as well but.....it should be an option, just fling the planet into the sun and kill it off Could be useful if there are only two planets left in system, your commander is on main planet, there commanded lands on your roid to take over your base there, you fire off rockets you just finished, but sending it onto the main planet kills your commander, so fling it into the sun..... sure there are other reasons to do it, maybe to just create a cool draw LOL
They talked favorably about the possibility of flinging planets into the sun in a previous livestream as a strategy. I like the idea of putting satellites in orbit around a star. A solar power plant around a star would be turbocharged with all that photonic energy, which would in turn hypercharge your economy. I assume gas giants would be used for fuel (energy?), maybe the star could be used in the same way.
I'd be ok if you could build halleys on enemy world and send them tumbling into the sun. Otherwise maybe. Not sure what it would to for game balance.
oh gawds. I LOVE that idea. It's like a count down until mutual death. Maybe it works in a ladder match. But the ramification in Galactic War could sure get interesting. And yes. Dyson Sphere. This game is just asking for that to become a unit.
This is a cool idea. You know, you could almost have "terrain" on the sun. Like a constant solar flares may present obstacles to navigate around. That would make it a little more unique and different from gas giants. Maybe they slowly move around the sun, presenting a hazard for those units. Maybe could provide a boost for orbital solar panels.
