Is it intended that the escape rocket for the orbital launcher damages anything it hits when it falls back to the ground? After setting up a lot of orbital factories with some build power on them I came back to find my buildings damaged and my fabbers dead. Chronocam shows that my escape rockets were doing it. It isn't really significant damage, but it eventually killed my fabbers and was damaging my buildings.
I think it is intentional, though I can't remember any dev actually saying that (my logic being they wouldn't have implemented it if it wasn't intentional) You can set a rally point for an orbital launcher just like a normal factory and the rocket will go blasting off in that direction. Just make sure you got a small open space for them to fall on.
Just set a rally point a little off of the launcher and the bitz shouldn't fall directly onto it anymore, at least that's how it worked before. Mike
I used to be able to do that, but I think the rally point for Orbital Launchers aren't working anymore. It doesn't solve the problem of it still damaging things if something is walking under it.
Someone looked it up online, and currently when a space shuttle is launched it's tank is either recovered without crash or it is detonated before it hits the ground to prevent crash in case mission control loses control of the tank. Either way, it seems silly this mechanical oversight exists in a technologically advanced robot design.
If a rocket is going to land on something, it really should do some damage. (Just station two combat fabbers nearby. They'll repair everything.) That said, I don't think there should be a booster in the first place. The entire launcher design seems ridiculous in the face of the Astraeus.
Are you sure it's ever worked like that? There is report on bugtracker: PA#2972, but I have strange feeling that it's always was like that. I guess it's might become like that in 56516 when Uber fixed PA#1881. Since this version you no longer able to interrupt any unit that leaving factory so rocket always going down in same and only then orbital unit start moving to rally place. Any thoughts?
