Orbital Lasers need to be cooler

    I'm unsure as to why orbital lasers have their current rapid fire/low energy setup. It means they lack the drama that lasers should space from have, but also makes it hard to notice them which definitely shouldn't be the case.

    If you took their current three shot model and changed it to a single shot, it would help in making the effect more dramatic. Some kind of beam descending from the sky such that it will actually be noticed instead of "why is my health bar going down?". You learn the sound of course, but it's not a very intuitive thing, a red beam from the sky screams DEATH SATTELITE!

    Even keeping the rapid fire model they need to have a much more visible effect, some beam or pulses of light, and signs of impact on the ground like smoke or electricity crackling around the area.

    Just kidding, personally id like the orbital weapons to be a little more imaginative then a straight up kill beam.


    But if we are going to have orbital kill weapons, more visuals would be nice......what about a CNC esque reveal of the shooting unit when they fire?

    Lasers in orbit should be kinda visible from the heat right? Why not also a visual of their heat radiators cooling down?

    I think they should have much more delay in between each shot. giving you at least time to panic before you're dead.

    I'd say since they've been in the game, 80-90% of my wins have been thanks to them.

    Uber has stated that the visuals of the game still need a lot of work.

    We also know how much of a fan they are for "AWESOME."

    I imagine the laser satellite will receive an update.

    Are we stressing out about the shiney before the playability?

    shouldn't it be
    engine > framework > roster > ui > balance > shiney?

    I like the idea of a red beam that shoots down, with a clear "BRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZT" sound that simply does X damage per second to whatever it hits. The DPS would be the same, just continuous damage over time rather than pew-pew-pew.

    I agree that the current implementation is pretty far from spectacular. "Something invisible is hitting me! Oh, must be a laser satellite."

    Sometimes simple is best. Kill beam from orbit sounds good to me. Likewise with the metal planet weapon. If it doesn't remind me 95% of the destruction of alderaan from A New Hope then I'm going to be disappointed.

    Although the cybran nuke effect from supcom, that was quite different from a straight mushroom cloud and I did like it a lot.

    the explosion of supcom in general were awesome.

    Honestly, I'd be happy if they stole the death laser effect from the uef.

    Alderaan is a little OP.
    Those surface mounted quad cannons are a little more realistic.

    Fighting for a control point to activate Metroplex would also be sweet.

    If this isn't how the orbital laser looks/works in the final game I will be very disappointed. Warning video contains violence and disturbing imagery.

    Edit: Damit I can't get it to start at the part i want, 6 minutes 51 seconds in is the scene where the army tries to kill Tetsuo with SOL, the Satellite Orbital Laser. At first the characters see just a faint blue glow and wonder WTF is going on, then flesh starts burning as the beam becomes narrower until it's focused on a single point where the concentrated energy causes whatever it's focused on to explode.

    That would actually be a pretty cool effect in game, doing a small amount of damage to a wide area at the start of the attack, and then a massive amount of damage at the focus at the end.

    l3tuce: I was thinking the same thing! The sol thing from akira would be cool. Right now the orbital laser looks more like kanedas gun than sol lol btw I don't think there will ever been an anime off that caliber
