It's always struck me as tremendously odd that orbital fabbers can spray their nanolathes down from way up in orbit... there have been some complaints, as well, that this (plus the rapid build-speed of teleporters) makes invasions too easy. For the sake of balance, what if Orbital fabbers had to descend (much as the Astreus does) to make Teleporters, thereby becoming vulnerable to AA fire? You can already clear ground by building Anchors to bombard a clear space, after all. The only weirdness is having a second sat that can go up and down willy-nilly. If all we need is a visually sensible tweak, then a descending pole-arm like the one used on Gas Giant collectors could work too. Not sure how that'd be fired upon by AA, though, if at all. What say you?
I get what you mean, it is strangely inconsistent. Maybe have them drop down and hover on jets while building then thrust back up to orbit?
Either descend to air layer - or what makes more sense: Use the egg mechanic for teleporter "drops". Build it in orbital layer and only have the portal descend. Either way: No inter layer construction.
Only because orbital is broken as hell. Do not keep silly and stupid features because others are broken. You are better then that, come on.
If you got rid of orbital fabs building teles from space, or building teles at all, orbital gameplay would completely collapse again. It's absolutely essential to have an easy way to get teleporters down on a planet. Barring some major overhaul of orbital (which is clearly not going to happen), this is here to stay, realism aside.
