I was thinking: how about an orbital factory ship that drops units into the planet? You can have vehicles, air and bots ships. They would only build T1 but as fast and efficient as a T2 factory.

We have the animations for drop, units would be generated in planet, so it wouldn't need much new codding for it. it would give a new option for planetary invasion besides teleporters.

So do u think this mechanic could work?

If so, should the ships have armaments?
    High health or low health?
Should there be defenses ship (drops t1 defenses)?
How expensive should they be?Double the price of a t2 factory?
    How efficient should they be?
They should be built in the orbital factory, or by the orbital fabber? Or a new superstructure?
Should they take time to deploy?

    Please, discuss!:)

Your probably going to get allot of "please search" comments for this one, just to warn you!

I've personally advocated a system where certain units are able to be built in a drop pod (totally vulnerable while in orbit) and then deployed to the planet. A big +1 from me on that! I'm not sure I'd want every unit available like that, my original suggestion was in relation to fighters (to help tackle a particularly entrenched planet). Others have suggest teleporters should be built like this.

I guess the main issue is the same as with other more 'complex' unit functions- it isn't a simple case of making the unit and adding it. The new behaviours require additional programming work to be undertaken. Hopefully this kind of stuff will be possible in the future :)

Sure, i don't mean for this to be implemented right now i just want to hear peoples opinions on it.
I actually had the idea after watching the able tournament and seeing units being dropped in game, so i tough it would be a cool dynamic to have, and wouldn't require units to go inter planet space.

Actually his idea was to use the Astreus to take buildings from one planet to another, my idea is to have orbital structures (ships) that produce units in orbit and launch them into the planet below (they don't land). Very different things.
It could possible complement the unit cannon , since the gameplay would be different, You would have to park these ships over a hostile planet (hence you would have to defend them against orbital attacks), wile the unit cannon is safely protected in your home planet, just churning units at your enemies.

still this isn´t realy new either...
orbital and mobile factories have been suggested before
dropships that indeed drop units from orbit have been suggested and discussed
aswell as varius experimental big units with multiple functions ...

my general opinion on it is to keep stuff torwards surface as much as possible ...
build factories and armies on the ground ... orbit should rather function as a highway for unittransfers and as the startingpoint of your invasions ... orbital in multiplanetmatches is an unavoidable layer ... putting in too much content and options to it will make it even more the center of matches making other layers redundant ...
i´m still ok with how orbital currently is for the most part ... it just needs some tweaking on pace ....
but this has been discussed to death before as well ...
