My parents are planning to switch our ISP from Comcast over to AT%T due to Comcast jacking up prices after we cancelled our telephone and TV, about $70 a month to be exact, just for internet. Anyone use AT&T, what can I expect in terms of latency in comparison to Comcast, and any possible bandwidth caps.
I assume you mean UVerse? It all depends on your area. Where I am, Comcast had much higher latency and jitter, so AT&T was a huge improvement. What do you mean by bandwidth cap? Are you reffering to speed? If so, that is completely up to what you want to pay - you can go as low as 256k/768k all the way up to speeds that are faster than Comcast - it all depends on what you pay for. For the record, most gaming does not require over a 512K connection... If you are reffering to "you can only download XYZGB a month" then again, that depends on your area and your package. Most areas in the US don't have a limit unless it is within the package itself so you are again left with "read the terms of your contract". In general, even the lowest speed line with a data cap will be plenty for most gaming applications since they are goverened more by latency and jitter, which AT&T is pretty good at managing.
U-Verse is the best internet I've ever had, though I've only used Surewest and Comcast (BOTH F****NG SUCK). From a consumer standpoint, not some technological **** that I don't even know, I can say it is mucho better.
In my area, AT&T has less power than Comcast but their box doesn't explode and require a $20 replacement every few weeks.
