I'm an odd fellow that isn't particularly fond of sports or sports games, but then I recalled something that made football fun for even me. One of the NFL GameDay games. It had a code that randomly placed invisible land mines all over the field. Pandemonium and laughs galore. There was another sports game in the 32 bit console generation I enjoyed solely for purposes other than the sport itself. Some hockey game, I forget what it was. What I enjoyed about it was being a goalie...Skating over to the opposing team's goal...And continuously beating the crap out of their goalie. The bad AI made this a mildly successful strategy and also ensured that you would be beating on an immortal, single-minded opponent which refused to fight back. Or at least I think the goalies weren't programmed to fight back, it may have been that I kept knocking them down too much for them to get a shove in edgewise  NBA Jam. I don't know why, but I just simply enjoyed this dumbed down version of basketball. Like a lot. Maybe it's just memory embellishment(over a decade ago and all), but it sticks out as an especially good sports game franchise to me. I should probably make a blog for things like this since even I don't know where I'm going with it, but meh.
NBA jam was fun just to hear the announcer scream " HE'S ON FIRE!!!!" but i remember an old blitz game in which you had no penalty for tackling a player after the whistle. What ensued was hours of me and my friends tackling each other or forcing a fumble and not grabbing it just to hit each other even more
BLITZ the League 2 is my favorite sports game. I enjoyed seeing how many necks and collar bones I could break in a single game. I think I even ruptured a guy's scrotum once, what an accomplishment that was lol
