I am not sure it is a bug or it is intended.
I remember it is used to be able to do that before the Titan released.
But now, I can't do that anymore.

    Does anyone figure out that?

Been this way for a while. If you could nuke the gas giant it would be very difficult to set up a foothold.

I respect that but how do you boot someone off now?

it's impossible to dislodge someone who's massing avengers there

That's something I discussed with tvnitia when titans released. They're working on the issue. Probably going to make the battleships better at fighter killing

the problem with nukes on orbit or gas giants would be the insta appearance of nukes after orbital transition ...
i assume they tried orbital nuke defense but it didn´t work ...

I don't think the anti nuke for gas giant is really needed.
Since the gas giant is so huge, the nuke can only destroy a small area.

If the anti nuke which can be built on orbital layer is added, this anti nuke can be built on the orbit of normal planet.
I feel it is a little redundant because we already have the anti nuke on the ground.

I -could- recall wrong, but I recall taking out an helios that was still being built on a gas planet by directly targeting the helios itself with the nuke.

wouldn't be the first structure to be replaced with something else ..
it would also give the antinuke some extrasavety as you would need antiorbital to kill it ..
though considering that orbital is now fully visible ... meh ... nevermind

I still want a large radius EMP orbital nuke for exactly this purpose.

I think it as the same as you.

Current nuke can only target the ground or the water surface,
    it can't target the orbit.

Since there is no ground nor water surface on gas giant, player can't send nuke there.

I got a small idea and I know this sounds crazy because it is artillery we are speaking about, and we all know it is op.

What if the following 3 things are possible?

Halley's can move planets in a "safe" mode, which means halleys activly uses the "z" axis to dodge planets and can change orbit. Would be even odder if you can somehow make a planet "face" another planet for tactical purposes.

Artillery of the biggest variety can hit a moderate half sphere distance, And they implement finally a system that was found even in one of the oldest games "Warzone 2100" With counter artillery systems. Shield, and Counter fire. Since the biggest guns can already fire across an entire planet, why not just make this an inclusive "sphere" instead of a plain.

Balancing all three things in a odd, but enjoyable and risky way.

Think about it, you are dealing with a planet that is not habitable by ground troops. So you must "bring" ground to them.
Which puts you at risk, but also puts you in range for Both orbital Combat and artillery/big/long guns.

Which puts wonderful images of Pirate combat into my head, bringing new manipulations to the game.

Halley's is a wonderful system, that needs to be explored and balanced.
1 it needs to be slowed down, even when engaged into playing pool with the planets mode as it seems wayyyy to quick.
2, the health adjusted I think slightly larger health or a smaller system
    3,Build time is perfect.
4, Finally This system shouldn't just be offensive, but utilitarian. Allowing a defensive situation, a movement situation, and a offense situation. While being costly as a super weapon Should.

It is a creative idea but you are going to miss the point that this is a fast game that has to end sometime. Therefore halley's are game enders not game extenders and that's what they are gonna do if you can play cat and mouse with them.
