I really don't like using my middle mouse button for games, just the scroll wheel. I like the ability to "rotate" around using a modifier key + left or right mouse. Actually, if the navigation were a bit more like a 3d app that would be great.

This will cease to be a problem once configurable controls are implemented.

there's a couple alternatives, middlemouse isn't ideal but it's the most comfortable so far

I prefer shift+leftclick. But like I said, configurable controls are bog standard, and have a 99.99999% chance of being included.

shift leftclick has the problem of being used already to queue up stuff. I am happy with the middle mouse button.

This. Also if you put your cursor in space (NOT on the planet) and scroll it will move the planet around in that direction. It's the most efficient way to move around I've found.

I agree the current view controls are a bit clunky at the moment. However I'm sure this issue will be resolved once Uber makes the controls user configurable. For now they are hard coded (this is not the final way it will be).
