I've had this bug for quite a while now. Every time i try to play PA no terrain is generated and there is no background. You can only see the metal icons. This bug made me quit the clopse 6 (which i would anyways lose.. ) I've tried to redownload PA but nothing seems to be fixed. I'm running OS X 10.8.5 on a MacBook Air from 2011 with 4gb of ram and a 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7 I really need to get this fixed!
I had this very same problem on Linux (using an Nvidia graphics-card). Installing the latest driver (I was one driver behind) indeed solved the issue.
