OK, I just started a (single player) game for the first time and am a bit lost. On the commander's build menu, when I highlight the icons for the things to build, a tooltip pops up with a description of the structure but not the name of the structure. The space where the name would be is blank. The same goes for factories - the unit tooltips don't give the unit names, only the description. After the unit structure is built, I can highlight it and see the name in the corner, but this isn't very helpful when just learning the game. I've exited the game and restarted several times now, and every time is the same, except for once, where the names showed up. I've verified I'm running the latest version. Any idea what's wrong or how to fix this? As a separate question - I watched the ZaphodIX beginner tips video and noticed that his main menu screen had a "Tutorial" button, while mine does not. Am I missing something here? An in-game tutorial would be really really useful. Thanks!
I'm not sure about the tooltips. I certainly see them... You mean these, right? Can you post your DxDiag.txt if you use Windows? (Press <Win>+R, type "dxdiag" and save all information. Upload there here using the "Upload a File" button). If not Windows, which graphics card and what drivers do you use? You can at least find many tutorial videos in the Videos & Replays subforum. There are lots of them there. See this search. (I hope that links works). Although it seems you already found a few.
Didn't there used to be a bug some time ago where exactly that happened widespread? Wasn't there are workaround?
Yes, that's the tooltips I'm talking about. But for me the part where it would say "Dox" is blank. (The rest of the stuff is there, though.) Also, yeah this is Windows - I've attached the DxDiag. As for the YouTube videos - yeah I can find them. The sight of a button on the main menu had made me hope for a more traditional in-game interactive tutorial. Thanks!
