yeah, I paid extra for beta access, I thought it would be cool to get in early. But I can't play without internet access.. I can't even play the tutorial? I only play games offline, while I'm on call at work. I have no internet access at work. Very disappointed. There was no mention during the kickstarter that this would be a online only game, or that the beta would be via a server.. Panic...
You should have been able to find SOMEWHERE that this game was server-only during beta. And yes, it is during beta. If it makes you feel any better at all, it should only be for about a month or a month and a half. Whenever release date is or possibly before release. You aren't the first one to make a post like this but it does bring bad sentiments every time it happens.
yeah, I shouldn't have to trawl ubers blogs or websites to find a quote somewhere that the beta is server only. I only just found out that I can't play beta offline, This means that uber failed to make this clear while taking my money. That's dishonest and I'm disappointed, Beta is worthless to me and not something I wouldn't have paid extra to have, had uber been more clear. Panic...
The main FAQ for the game (on the UBER site) states that the minimum requirements from Alpha would be an internet connection and etc. and also says that the game will be single player offline, AT LAUNCH. Fair does though, I can see that this isn't exactly made super obvious. Hopefully you will get a refund, and join in again later on worldwide launch day! LEsson of the day, always do research into any game you buy
Yeah, Thanx for the info, not searching out a refund, normally takes more effort and stress than the $20 extra is worth. Like I say just feel let down, I promoted this game on wargaming sites and facebook to spread the word. I was happy to back the project and was looking forward to Beta. Strange that both the offline game and offline players input don't seem to be as valuable/valid during Beta. Sad Times. Panic...
I would say the same thing for the most part. I am impressed with the AI thus far though, only except for the fact you can't play that AI offline. By and by, isn't StarCraft online only anyway, including campaign?
That has nothing to do with anything and really, there wouldn't be any difference in terms of Testing feedback even if you could locally host a server. One of the Bigger Reasons that Uber currently requires you to use it's servers is because they don't want their unfinished game to be pirated, under the current system you need an account that Uber views as having paid for the game in order to access Uber's Servers. This also works well for the Testing as it gives Uber Full Access to any kind of logging they want whenever they want because they have full access to all servers. This has been stated in Multiple places as already pointed out and we get this question at least once every few days here so it's nothing new. Mike
I recommend sticking around mate, there's not long till release and then you'll have proper offline mode. Also, I do have to point out that the online connection requirement is stated on the steam store page, under the "Early Access Game" bit, which is highly recommended reading before purchasing an Early Access game. If you got it straight from the Uber site, that I have no idea about.
Stop panicking, this isn't an "online" game. You can only play server-side during the beta due to testing, as well as to keep the game from leaking early. It's happened to some games before... It's valuable for them to gather testing data from games played on their servers, plus it gives them a chance to stress-test their network before the game goes retail. This isn't an "online" game, it's just being handled server-side right now for testing reason. The retail game will have a full offline single-player experience. Don't panic. You have to understand that a beta is a work-in-progress that requires our participation. It's not early-access to a full retail experience. It's not a demo. It requires that we play, participate, and above all, that we understand that this isn't the full game, not yet. Features will be missing - that is made clear pretty much on every page that allows you to purchase PA. Uber is a good company - if you want a refund, you can get one. Like nanolathe said, contact Garat if you no longer have any interest in PA and would like your money back.
Well if you had only used the search function, or google, you would have found out... stop being an idiot.
The tutorial video. It's a Youtube clip, so naturally can't be seen when offline. I'll post a link to it when I get home so it can be seen outside of the game. Edit:
Oh. I thought he thought that the tutorial was a tutorial level. I couldn't get the link to work sorry.
This is the trademark good spirit that makes it easy and stress free for new members to vent their concerns No one is infallible, ya know?
While offline you can play in the system editor.. It's no actual gameplay but you can experiment with making your own custom solar systems and preveiw the orbits... You could also do a lot of testing of the custom system maker and see what idea's you could suggest to help improve its layout and flow. I'm sure even tho your not playing the developers still take feedback from everybody registered here....
