Anyone think this looks nicer than the current game i do.
Not really, the biomes, bleh.
(Though admittedly I didn't watch it)
We need new explosions! That will change everything!
Path-finding killed most of the terrain props.
Is we get better props that adhere to the path finding, we can get cool stuff like this again without compromising gameplay.
EDIT: also, effects. weapons effects have arguably, gotten less flashy.
The game overall looks much better now, but some things like the mesas being removed I'm disappointed about. I hope biomes and such will be iterated on after launch.
Well yes path finding was bad but it still is pretty bad
I'd rather it be meh than terrible.
true but for release in 2 days I would rather be one a desert planet and not have my units not get stuck on invisible things and the rocks.
But i guess whatever floats there boat
The biomes are kinda meh, but the big mountain looks a lot better than what we have today.
EDIT: Also, the explosions look nicer. The darker colours and debris just look better than the light yellow explosions we have today.
Well the thing is, with these terrain features the game's pathing would break further. Personally I don't have much problems with the pathing in PA, maybe I'm just lucky.
Also, I can't say that the game looked better back then, biome transitions were too sudden and a bit /too/ cartoony. Not to mention how beautiful the game looks right now, the lighting, shadows, textures, everything is of so much higher quality than before.
Obviously because this is much further into development, but hey, you asked which I liked better.
can we get those explosions back?
Even the trees and foliage look better in that video. The trees we have now are lame. And the huge canyon, the mesas...
The upshot is that we at least know that they are capable of improving the terrain. It would have been much worse if they had only shown us the current terrain, because then we would doubt if they are even capable of improving it.
Can't they just hire a couple more pathfinding people, if that is the real problem? Is pathfinding as difficult a problem to solve as cancer? It certainly appears so by all the fuss that's made about it.
Why does everyone say this? There's nothing about a mesa that should break pathing AFAIK. Metal planets have far more potential complications than mesas I would think, and they work fairly well.
Well mainly because people act like the game's patching jow is broken, (which I disagree with)
There obviously must be a reason for the removal of Mesas and such, especially considering how their return has been requested so much.
The mesas were old placeholder models that didn't seam with the terrain properly. If mesas are to come back, they would need new models.
Absolutely.... The biomes are waaaaay better....no idea what they've done to the planet seeds and the height variations on everything but looks much poorer right now then it did in early alphas as well as pre alpha builds. Also has better shading in that video.
The explosions are better I agree
