Currently I find that ranked maps lack the need for higher tech or interesting orbital gameplay thus only using 1/2 of what the game provides. There is only one map that allows interplanetary gameplay currently and that is Styx and that is only if one player rushes orbital. I am having trouble seeing why there are not many multi-planet maps on 1v1 games. Is it because most of the competitive players do not like games that last 25-30 min instead of 10 to 15min ? Or is it because they do not think it will be balanced? Or is it simply because they have not been created yet?

For me I think that there are many ways to create balanced interplanetary ranked 1v1 maps. One simple example of one of these would be a gas giant with two moons that are exactly the same orbiting it. Each player would start at the same spot on their moon and the game would ensue. Because the moons and the starting locations are exactly the same the map would be balanced.

Different variations of this would also work:
    • 2 lava moons (exact same) around a earth planet
    • 2 earth moons (exact same) around lava planet
    etc ...

My question is would other players like these types of systems or should they be only in the custom games section?

I agree with you, AG. But we need to get orbital into the *actual layer that isn't a joke* category first. This means new units, new balance, and UI changes. None of these things are small by themselves, and taken together are a massive project for Uber. It's going to be a little bit before they fix it :)

orbital still requires multiunittranports and carriers ...
as well as factory assist ...

I actually disagree with you here. Never once in a interplanetary game have I needed multi-unit transports / carriers. maybe I have needed factory assist . . once. All that was required in an interplanetary game was some well-placed unit cannon shots and interplanetary fighters to get rid of the air then a gate to establish the foothold. If orbital was required then I would spam O-fighters and SXXs. I do agree that we need some tanky & long range orbital units like in modX / orbital overhaul but I actually feel like it is in a OK state to have these maps.

If it does get to a point where you cant use unit cannon + inter-fighter + O-fighter, then nuke, smash, or lazer. No need for multi-unit transports or carriers.

I have shown many people that it is not a joke by destroying huge sections of their base by Anchors. Also many times I have done orbital rushes on Styx and won most of them with orbital into unit cannon drop and ground invasion. Then if that did not work - Laser/nukes. That all to say I disagree with you on that point, but I do agree it needs new units and balance changes. However as I said above I do think it is in a OK state to have these maps.

making unitcannons take both a lot of time and metal to even get to especialy when you need multiple of them then again many of your factory build units still are stuck on the same planet unless you have a teleporter online ... additionaly your options are limited from what you can bring from other planets before getting proxybases up ... transports and carriers generaly will broaden your options available ...
