I don't know how I should address this, but during my games I noticed something. All Naval units, be it the advanced battleship or the basic scout ship, seem to have the same range. Or at least close enough that it wouldn't make a difference. I was playing on a tropical planet and built myself some decent fleet, to raid a base close to the shoreline. The thing was, I couldn't. I thought the battleship's range would be sufficient to have a reasonable reach, so I could attack something that was closer then directly at the coast. This is still beta, I know, and I guess nothing in this game is set in stone already, but some naval rebalancing with the next patch would be pretty awesome. Thanks!
