Was there any stated plan for natural satellites (moons) to behave differently from planets? That is, planetoids (or even planets) that orbit other, larger planets or planetoids. At the moment, moons behave identically to planets in every gameplay-relevant way that I have seen, and I haven't found anything speaking to the contrary.

Yet, I've seen the idea several times mentioned in passing by posters talking about other topics, simply assuming that moons would have differences, such as being easier to reach with unit cannons.

well there are several differences that are not really in yet.
Firstly there is the current planet smashing that requires a smaller planet.
Later on however they are putting in the unit cannon, and last I heard, these can only be fired down onto a planet from an orbiting moon or asteroid, likewise interplanetary nukes may have simular limitations. Ultimately they will be your launching ground for an invasion to, I assume, set up a teleport gate from your main world.
