Short question for Uber For those of us that have the right to name planets, might it be possible to stipulate a preference for the "type" of planet they would wish to name? ie, Gas giant, Metal, Water etc If the feeling is that most users would want the same type of planet named, perhaps a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice can be made, to ensure all types have enough "naming-backers".
The names chosen by backers(at certain pledge levels) are used to name planets as they are randomly generated. Any name should be automatically applicable to any planet type to ensure they have a large pool to pull names from. Mike
depending on the total number in their name list (whatever the source) it might be sensible to categorize them by planet type, at least if the chosen name implies some association concerning the look of the planet. Otherwise they might have to limit the names to a commonly applicable range.
I'm sure the good folks at Uber are capable of deciding whether this is a good/simple idea to implement or not. I just think that if a backer is able to name a planet, wouldn't it make the backer feel more affinity to the game if the planet type their chosen name was attached to, was actually a planet type they are likely to want to play on themselves? I personally would be a bit miffed if a name I had chosen was given to a water planet, as I doubt I'll play there as much as a mostly land-based planet. And even if the majority of "naming backers" wanted to name say a Gas Giant, I assume Uber will either have:- a/ an auto-name generating feature b/ a list of their own to complement the backer's efforts c/ the ability for players to name a randomly-generated planet however they wish, especially if they "save" the planet for further use, or use it as a template for creating a new world.
If only I had backed to this level I could have named 'my' planet "A Battlestation" purely for the slim chance that one day I'd be in a game where someone says "Im going to attack the moon..."
