That is the most hilarious thing I have seen today. And I see a lot of hilarious things every day.

They are just idiots that do not understand marketing. Laugh at them and their fail when it comes to understanding how to make money.

Most of steam is just a bunch of game hoarders who look for cheap deals, even if they don't play the games.

Cheap early access games are a source of that.

All my steam hording has been mostly for nostalgic reasons. For the most part I play thru most games I've bought recently at least once. It's more or less just waiting till something on my wishlist goes on sale. If I REALLY want it, preorder. The daily deal thing just doesn't interest me.

EDIT: but ya..... all those threads

Re: My thoughts every time I read a rant about steam pricing

Had to create an account so I could share my thoughts.

    1. People are stupid.
    2. I had already figured that the Steam Early Access was going to be at Pre-Order price points, and given that I had already decided 90 was too much for me to justify, I was not bothered by that.
    3. People are ignorant. Back in the day, alpha meant employees and their close friends. And failure to provide real feedback resulted in losing access. "Open" alphas cost money so that the devs don't give away a game and get nothing in return. "Open" alphas where the devs are already funded can be a premium because they are a novelty opportunity for the hardcore player.
    4. Did I mention that people are stupid?

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." One of my fav quotes in MIB. :)

It pains me to even look at the forum on steam. This is herd mentality at it's worst, and it honestly terrifies me. I really hope this idiocy does not do permanent harm to uber and PA because I really think it's a great game so far.

Threads like this reaffirm my faith in humanity.

I'd better not go and read the Steam support forums today then . . . :)

    Their argument:

    I don't want to pay!
    I don't want to wait!
I don't want an incomplete game!

If the game isn't ready, right now, FOR FREE, then, then.....

Re: My thoughts every time I read a rant about steam pricing

You guys, show exactly the same attitude, as War-Z fans back in the days :) Do you remember when it came out on Steam?

Some greedy developers, shamelessly sheering you like sheep for your cash, selling you promises, for 2 times the price of any major game out there. I want a new Total Annihilation game as much as any other old gamer out there, but i am not falling for all these empty words again! NO MORE!

If it would be possible for someone to acquire a license to produce Half-Life 3, they would make millions in the first day, just by promising to make it. And it is ridiculous! Gamers are so hungry for innovation, so hungry for quality of the old games - they will pay any price to re-live that joy once more...

When someone pays 50$, 100$, or even 1000$ during a kickstarter - it all fine! That is the time, when developers are standing with a stretched out hand, like a street performer in a subway, and some people are willing to donate their money to support their talent, if there is any. When you charge 83 Euro for a pre-pre-pre alpha carcass of a game in an online shop, it is a greedy and unethical marketing trick!

How about producing something, before selling it?! How about taking a loan in a bank, and being personally responsible for game's success? Now, they are only risking YOUR money - if it goes well, they will get rich, if it fails, and it seems like it will - it is your money that will go down the drain!

My first and last post here! For freedom and quality! :)

Ah yes, the famous, just go to a bank and they'll just handle you a million dollars over funding scheme.

Works perfectly well in fantasy I've heard.

Seriously, have people really no clue how hard it is to get funding? That game developers usually aren't secret millionaires?

Also, they're putting their own money into the game. You don't think the 2mio $ they got from the kickstarter is enough to fund the whole game? Because its not enough at all, the full game developement costs way more.

    2/10.

Poor attempt. The smell of Red Herring is too strong, you've come off as trying too hard to troll. Points awarded for correct spelling and grammar.

Read as: I'm not interested in other peoples' opinions, thus I have no interest in freedom (of speech) or equality (of opinion).

    tl;dr: trolling hard.

Re: My thoughts every time I read a rant about steam pricing

Well, Sean H, i was patiently reading Uber forums for some time now, and if I were alone about the things I wrote, i would keep it to myself. Just to prove you wrong, i spent 20 min on reading all sorts of your opinions, that you made so conveniently accessible all over the internet.
And I have to say it was a great waste of time, since they are all as bland, empty and irrelevant, as the your comment above.

    tl;dr: stop spam-posting

I fully expect to get this post cleaned up, but I could care less about what you think. My information is all over the Net because I have no reason to hide it.

At least you posted a second time :)

(my name is on my Twitter, my first name is on Steam, as is my physical location, etc, et al)

Re: My thoughts every time I read a rant about steam pricing

Dammit, that's how I got all those games on Steam that I have never played. :(

Anyway, please don't make new threads on the topic. I believe we have an ample supply of them already. And I don't want to see insults from either side here.

PS: Gnomoria is on sale? :p
