Back when I started playing MNC the first custom class I made was an Assault with gold Skill, silver Armor, and bronze Health. I took gold skill recovery for the spamming of lvl 3 charge for the ring-outs. It was not great. But hey I was new right? After enjoying the almost always insta-win encounters from punching people a mile one on one, but getting destroyed in the animation in a group, I moved on to other classes. After trying everyone out and a lengthy love affair with the tank (you still have a special place in my heart buddy) I returned to the assault. Gold skill recovery? No rate of fire? Level 3 charge? What the hell was I thinking? So I bit wiser I changed to gold armor, silver rate of fire, bronze reload. Now I'm surviving font grabs from assassins and gunning down gunners. Life is good again!

    BUT WAIT!

I started getting good with bombs. Really good. People were flying all over the place, choke points became mine, gunners and tanks fell to constant head crabs. If only there were someway to capitalize on my new skills....skills? SKILL! Now I'm running gold Skill again and its fantastic! People are so confident after a bomb explodes that they never expect a second blast. Just the ability to place them while running to blow back a sticky hurt gun wielding support makes them worth their weight in gold.

The important moment in the change of thought is when you realize most people ONLY use the bomb defensively. With a long recharge you cant chance not having the bomb in place when a assassin shows up or a tank comes up on your ledge. With such an improved cool down on the bomb it becomes an amazing offensive tool. You can hit people around corners, stop support from hacking turrets, remove snipers from their perches and just push a general barrier in front of yourself where ever you go. Those abilities paired with a quick charging lvl 2 charge and lvl 3 flight make for an incredibly effective killer that is very hard to catch. If they cant get near you, why use extra armor?

Give gold skill a try, you might be pleasantly surprised! (Seriously though, stay away from lvl 3 charge)

I use bronze skills for the same reasons you stated, I think the difference between bronze and default is significant, but between bronze, silver and gold is not. And I wouldn't want to give up my armor or RoF in those 2 main slots.

I think it's about 3 seconds on both charge lvl 2 and bomb. Now I actually leave RoF bronze and take the bump in skill recharge since gunfire is usually sandwiched between bombs and charges anyways. I know it seems like a bad idea but it really works. Gold armor is nice, but I started to notice I was taking less hits and was almost never grabbed by an assassin as my play style changed making less useful. Staying mobile with flight is a great defense that's also boosted by skill recovery(obviously).

If I were going more gun/grenade heavy I would definitely go back to gold armor.

Currently using gold Skill, silver Armor and bronze RoF. I usually finish MvP with most kills, assists and respectable (for assault) bot kills of between 50 an 70, depending on match length.I'm not bragging that I'm "teh best", because I'm not, but am just saying this build really is viable.

those bombs are bananas. i agree that after the update, cries will reign for nerfing the newly overpowered assault. i say they should just make bombs destructable. cuz i run skill regen on mine as gold, and there IS a difference.

i had to use someone elses assault after host migrate once. i couldnt BELIEVE how much slower bronze was. i wasnt able to rely on it because id time my moving on the regen, and id be waiting forever without gold and/or losing kills.

skill regen on lvl 3 skills lets you rush around in charge like its an assassin lunge with a face-punch instead of an assassination (depending on the angle, its more fatal than a lunge-facegrapple). gold skill regen lets you fling bombs with a higher rate of fire than a sniper rifle almost. at least i find i can win a strictly assault rifle fight 1/3 the time against someone running assault rifle endorsements, using my silver rate and bronze crits.

every assault uses there bomb like no tomorrow i some how never liked it.....i have been using it a lot more lately and its so helpful snipers, assassins are basically nothing anymore, gunner and tank usually runs after being hit by it support, they never get close enough and it helps you fend off other assaults and mainly juiced players...so many ring outs

i usually run gold accuracy, silver RoF bronze armor i might have to try some gold skill..but i love accuracy to much :(

I've been running bronze skill lately as I'm close to 1000 bomb kills, but I find that there's way too many situations where I end up dieing where I wouldn't have if I had my usual health recovery.

I tried this set-up instead of gold armor / silver ROF and realized after a few games that I am not good enough with the assault skills yet to make it work. But if you're really good I'll bet it would kick a lot of @$$.
