First off, i would like to thank everyone at uber for their dedication the making this game, it's really shaping up to be an amazing RTS game :D

Now onto my main topic, the combat in rhe latest demo of PA in their may 3rd livestream.

I don't know what it was, but the combat just seemed....off? In my head i've wittled down what it was, and while this is my personal opinion (and im just nit-picky like that) i really think that the missiles and tank shots were to large for the units that were firing them, the missiles where almost as big as some of the tanks you see, and i also think that the health bars for units were to big for the units that are fighting, it blocked out most of the explosions etc, and it seemed to ruin the experience of the explosions and missiles and tanks and bots that would have been fun to see otherwise.

Before you say, i know this is pre-alpha, which is why im saying it now and not 5 months later because this could be changed, and personally the strange scaling of the units/missiles/health bars could really take me out of the experience.

im not sure if anyone else found the combat wierd.

    Discuss :)

I found it a little weird too, but I'm not at all worried.

If the release day comes around and it hasn't been polished up, then I'll be worried.

I agree with both of the above. The combat does seem off, but I'm not worried. I'm more worried about how they will handle the constant curvature of planets. SupComm did not handle line-of-fire at all well, and while TA handled it better, the curvature means that the problem will be larger this time.

What will happen with direct-fire weapons like lasers, then. Will they be markedly limited by horizon? They should, but if they are, then it's important that units be smart enough to know that. Balance should also take that into account.

As long as you can turn off health bars in a way that doesn't affect gameplay. (can still see health of selected units etc) then I'm good.

I found it awesome! Shooting felt meaty and real. You know when you play a game and you shoot out of a shotgun and it feels like it was a toy?

Well in this case you have massive robots with missiles and just from watching it felt real, like all those missiles did actual damage and visually it looked awesome.

For the gazillionth time, the game is in pre-alpha stage! dont take ANY footage as final, nothing at this point is final.

This is Pre-Alpha... ie: it's safe to assume everything will change.

We're slowly working towards a planetoid dating sim.

Are you going to go full-Japan style, with tentacle planets?

I felt like the explosions needed some animation variation, the clouds looked like they were just cloned 100x. I'm sure this is already in the works though.

The game does look like it's starting to take shape though, and the last live stream was enough to finally get my preorder (I've only preorded 4 other games in my life, all Blizzard RTS and expansions, so congrats Uber :D ).

Honestly though the pre-alpha zealots need to relax. We fully realize the current state of development and that they may already be making the changes that we're suggesting. They are merely suggestions, and who knows, they might be new to the devs.

Honestly I think it would be most nice if the explosions would resemble the ones in the kickstarter trailer (probably a little smaller and faster) - the ones in the livestream looked like sprites instead of actual geometry.

    Make love, not war!

Or in this case, show your enemy just how much you love them with lasers and missiles! Pyro vision for everyone!

I like what I saw, the only criticism I have was that the guy playing didn't zoom in close enough for us to get a proper look at the action although other people kept saying "zoom in more" so it's not like they were trying to stop us from seeing the game up close -next video can we have a really close up look please :D

Agreed! I'd love to see more close-ups in the live streams if at all possible. Back to the original topic though, I thought the animations look great considering the game hasn't even been released at an alpha stage yet. You can really get a sense of where the style for the overall game is going (and that's basically the same as what we saw in the kickstarter video!).
