Are Multiple factions possible to mod in yet in multiplayer? At least build restrictions based on what commander you pick?
It would be straight forward in GW (singleplayer). Multiplayer would require getting creative with the limited set of unit attributes we currently have.
Yea, I saw Raevn's thread on custom unit types. So I guess that mean we can not do any total conversions until something is changed or somebody finds a way to pull off multiple factions with what we have.
One method you can use (and how I am currently planning for the TA mod) is to use two opposite unit types that would never exist together normally as the "key" for the faction, like Air and Naval. There's only so many of them possible though. Given the unit types are just a bit mask, custom unit types won't be possible unless that is re-engineered, but a solution could be for Uber to add a generic "faction" attribute which can be used in the buildable types field. Or, to allow the naming of specific unit IDs in the buildable types field, but that is less useful.
Do you think it would be possible to do 3 different factions all with land orbital(built from the factory in orbit) and air (the aircraft would also be able to go into orbit but they would be built from the air factory)? There would be no navel ships in the game.
Yes, that probably wouldn't be too hard. With the aircraft bit, do you want to know if you can build both air and orbital units from the same factory, or do you want air units capable of going into the orbital layer?
Yea, I just want air units that can go into the orbital layer. I was thinking of putting them in the air factory, while the units which are purely orbital would be in the orbital factory that is in orbit.
