Everybody is now going to get pissed off because of different factions,
at least there will just have the same unit pool.

So, don't hate the game yet

    P.S.: i am new

Well since the game is gonna have war, different factions would make sense....

Different factions != different unit pools

What Neutrino stated was what he was always stating from the begining. You're not uncovering anything new.

Neutrino insists that factions and unit pools are not the same thing. Although informally and in gameplay terms, that's what gamers mean when they think of factions.

Well, different ACUs are not factions too, unless they make some additional stats changes (like +5 to armor), which isn't a very good idea with shared unit pool.

I hope that this is just term misuse and neutrino actually said about "different ACUs" as "different ACUs" and nothing else.

I so hope that we will get multiple factions. Two different would be enough for me. I just can't live with the idea of having a single unit pool. TA and SC as well as many other good RTS games have different factions. Why change that working formula?

Because it's less work (art and balancing), and because mostly everyone seems to be fine with it.

There were always gonna be multiple factions. Within this one robot "race" there are obviously at least two factions that strive....

It's most likely that each faction just has visual differences and no gameplay differences....

Probably, but is one pool of units really less work? Is it more work having 2 factions with each 100 units, which differ mostly in visuals but have the same purpose (like in TA) then having one faction/unit pool with 200 units which kind of have to differ more in both departments?

I'm not sure, but maybe it's just me because I'm not sold on that one pool idea (yet).

There is a limit to how many unique roles units can have without causing certain units to be less useful than other units at the role they have. Say the limit is 150 roles. If you have 2 factions, you give each faction 100 units so that there is some uniqueness for the factions. Or you can give each faction 140 units and end up like TA, with mostly very similar factions.

One unit pool, however, can have units that fill all 150 available roles, and you have 150 units. 150 units is less than 200.

What sold me for the one unit pool idea though was something they developed a while back for 0K. Not sure what the progress with that idea is now, but here's my understanding of it. 0K's factories were big investments and hard to build. However, a boost at the start of the game given to units built allowed one factory and the resource structures to support it to be built very quickly. And there were many factories to choose from. And basically, your factory was your faction since you were stuck with, say, K-bots, for a long time until your economy was established enough to expand your pool.

I understand your point. Well, I guess there are pros and cons for both ways and in the end we'll have to wait and see what uber is going to deliver. Just let it be awesome!

It's just shortcut for limited resources. If PA would be success and will raise a lot of money, I suppose that there will be more full factions. It's cool stuff, but expensive and not very important, that's why it's dropped now.

Because it's not the only working formula?

The more work stems from Art Assets and Balancing.

Also you're math is pretty bad, why would 1 faction have 200 and 2 factions have a hundred each? Shouldn't 2 factions have two hundred each?

My favorite 'faction' game is M.A.X.

Exactly the same unit pool, but each 'faction' got a particular bonus to a set of units, and you could also choose which stats to further upgrade.

This sounds like a terrible idea, hidden bonuses that make the other player's peewees stronger than yours.

Well it wasn't hidden due to the UI showing the stats of each unit as I recall.

It's still less than ideal to have the same units behave differently.

True, but a lot of games do it by simply changing the basic colors of the unit to signify the difference.

But that does come off as cheap.
