I dont know if any info has been posted on this, but will the game actually make my Quadcore go to 100%, if needed? (if I host a own "server" maybe on lan with 20 players for example ) Is this even possible in a game?
Yes, this has been confirmed. It's listed in the big list of confirmed stuff. That being said, I don't personally blame you for missing it, it's a long list. Also, I know there's some stuff that has been confirmed that hasn't quite made it onto that list yet, so it isn't always the final authority.
Don't ever expect 100% utilization for all your cores from a, let's call it, "non-deterministic application", it will never happen . But as yogurt312 pointed out, the devs confirmed that the game or engine will be built with multi-threading being a priority.
I really hope they do this well. Its so frustating that a game lags while its only using 25% of your cpu
Will we be able to host servers on our own machines? What components should we focus on if we wanted to make a server? (CPU, RAM, GPU? Need to make a shopping list for Black Friday...) I tried to make my own MNC dedicated server back in the day, but it would never work properly.
True but my card is still pretty recent and it usually happens later in game when tons of units where in the game. Didnt matter where my view was even if i putted it in some corner it still lagged. My guess is my cpu had a hard time with all the pathfinding and **** because it only used 1 core. Iam talking about a zero k game btw where in chicken mode (tower defence mode) there where like 2000 if not more units clumping together.
In the TB Interview they said that a server with a current Intel Quadcore should be able to handle quite big games already. Without the ability to just use your own computer as server, the lan mode could not really be used The point about having the dedicated-server ability is that you could just rent a super powerful computing-monster with dozens of cores and 50GB Ram and use it as a server of a 40 players game. ... at least thats how I understand, neutrino may correct me if I am wrong xD EDIT: thinking about it, in the case of i.e. a clan who actually rents such a superpowerful system, it could be a good idea to definitely allow multiple game-instances within the server. So more than 1 game can be played on it. If the server is a real beast that should not be a problem and could be beneficial for clans.
So if you are in lan with like 3 friends there actually is no distinct server, but all 3 machines do some work, but none does it all? I think I read somewhere thats how TA did it, correct? Sounds like a challenging thing to do, my respect
That's how TA worked. This game you will have to designate a machine on the LAN to be the server. It can be the same machine someone is playing on if you so choose. I would hope most people would play on internet servers though.
So then a dedicated PC built for hosting the game would not be very powerful I take it? In comparison to one you could rent? Would it even be worth it? I'm just very anti-renting/monthly payments. I prefer to own.
That's awesome, and I'm glad you guys are emphasizing this. I was never able to play much SupCom with my brother because his computer was not great, and as a result sim speed would slow to a crawl and it would take ages to do anything, even with gamespeed at +10. We rarely finished any games because of it. I really appreciate the effort.
To be honest I see this hosting your own server business as a longer term proposition. Years down the track, when the actively playing community as dropped off and the online servers few and far between, instead of being left high and dry you'll be able to grab an old PC and a bunch of mates to get cracking playing it at 3840x2160 on your 37" inch monitor.
