So, I know that multiplayer is likely to be a big part of the game and I heard mention of adding features to make it a more interesting E-Sport. To that end, I had the idea of adding a ranking system for multiplayer games. Basically, each player in a match would get a set number of XP per match, depending on whether they win or lose. The XP system could be very simple, 200 for a win and 50 for a loss/taking part. Upon reaching a certain rank, the character could have a number of choices to make in unlocking abilities, buildings or units. Progression could be something similar to below: Private (Starting rank) Corporal (1000XP) Sergeant (2000XP) Lieutenant (4000XP) Captain (8000XP) Major (16000XP) Colonel (32000XP) Brigadier (64000XP) General (128000XP) Field Marshal (256000XP) As said, for each level the player could be given a choice of three unlocks, allowing for unique units, buildings or abilities that are bound to that account and can be used both in single player and in online battles. Just a thought, what do you all think?
i'm all for a ranking system if done properly, which i,m not worried about with uber. but, unlocks sound like a terrible idea even if it is cosmetic, on that note I hoping for an army painter of sorts.
[CAPSLOCK]NO.[/CAPSLOCK] Keep. That. ****. In Modern FPSes.. It has been quarantined there, and should remain there for the REST of TIME.
Why would you bother grinding points to unlock something that looks pretty, that only you can see? If you make it a disable-able option, most people will disable it. In that case, just give it to everyone for free.
Well...typically, in MWO, only you get to see the cockpit items unless you're the last man standing Then, they unlock paints, which everyone but the player can see. People are weird like that. Personally, I think different paint schemes would be interesting (maintaining team colors of course), or SC2s portrait system would be nice touches (I think they alluded to this with the achievements), but I can understand why people wouldn't like it.
Yeah, I have a pile of MC sitting in my wallet because I don't see the point in putting a little model of a mech inside my mech.
but then it shows people who have dedicated a significant amount of time to the game compared to who has not.if your going with the 'why not just give it to everyone for free/to begin with' approach, why even bother? its a lot more work for not much gain (if anything at all) to produce multiple models for units. at least in a rank system, it makes people look towards the next unlock they will get for playing.
This. Although cosmetic unlocks like COH2 I don't mind. They hit home for the derpy kids and don't impede gameplay for everyone else.
