Hey guys, So I remember reading that there will be a way to save MP matches and i think that would be really handy. My brother and I are really excited for this game but we know we won't have time to play a 12+hour match in one setting so this will be nice for when we want to have a large scale match with the galactic warfare and then a small match on one planet. How is going to work though. I would assume the host would save the game and then everyone would come back as if setting up a match and the host would load the save and continue where you last left off. That would be nice. What do you guys think?
They stated in the last livestream that the savegame will be inextricably tied to the replay system - that in fact a replay file IS a savegame. Since every player will need to end up with a replay file, I would assume that the file will be built on your system regardless of whether the host explicitly hits a save button or not. Im excited about the two systems being linked together, because that means you shouldn't have that "oh ****" moment when your buddy disconnects and you haven't saved in a while. Maybe a better question would be this - if a replay file is the same thing as a savegame, does that mean we will be able to scroll backwards into the replay file and pick a place to resume from? -Stretch
It is one of the developments that I have been most excited for so far : D I recall this very topic being covered and from what I gathered that is exactly what neutrino implied, that there is no reason why one couldn't be watching the replay and then decide to jump in at any point to finish that match off differently.
Which is going to be awesome for training purposes. Imagine playing with a noob, and he loses.. then you both go back and watch through the game, and you tell him 'look right there, that's your first mistake.. ok, lets take it from here and you can see how much better your economy will be now.."
On top of that it would be awesome to be able to look at replays being shared by the community and then jump into one of those games from a particular point using AI or friends. Given that the maps and planets are to be procedurally generated I can imagine wanting to share a game where the generator had produced something of note.
Hopefully one can also extract a seed from the replay in order to use that seed in your own games should you want to play with a different set-up(more/less players ect ect) Mike
I'm probably thinking about something that someone else has already mentioned here but... The way you worded this just makes me think about how you could essentially download a replay of someone else's game and switch out players for others. So you have a save game and it just allocates the players in the game to the slots in the lobby. When you load the game you play from the selected point with either the same or different players. Would be handy for those 12hr+ games and also pretty useful for clan wars and suchlike.
