Hello Murcanic again, I got back from three weeks away from my computer which worked fine before I left but after coming back most of my games no longer seem to run and I am unable to figure out why so far, when I start steam games like cs go and tf2 it seems to start up then goes black and then takes me back to my desktop, steam still thinks its running so I have to go into task manager to end the process for it since it does not show up in programs running, pa and other games get stuck in a black screen or just crash back to desktop. here is my dxdiag if anyone needs anything else to possibly help me please let me know
You DxDiag.txt looks ok, but it does sound like your system got messed up somehow. You may want to start with running the sfc tool that comes with Windows to scan for corrupted system files. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
You could try to start PA and then check the PA logfile in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log maybe it tells you what is wrong.
If all games are breaking then PA is going to die before it can write anything to log. By the sound of it, your comp's dun derped. Nothing to do but reinstall.
Not at all. Maybe it dies because the graphics driver is borked for example. In that case PA certainly does write something about that.
sadly I can't even get the launcher for pa up... let me try the exe I guess btw I did the windows scan thing and it said it detected some corruption but could not repair it all then said there were more details in a CBS report log but it won't let me access that log...
You can try rebooting and run the scan again, then reboot again to see if it has any effect. The bit about the log seems common. (Possible solution here) I suspect there's not much useful info in there anyway though. The important bit about sfc is that it repairs things or tries to anyway. If all fails, you can probably do a system restore to a point three weeks ago if those are still available. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore
copying the file location worked to open, as for the reports details.. I may not know what it means xD and it won't let me upload it here for being to large of a file....
It's too large of a file?! Upload it to mediafire. The file in question is in %localappdata%\uber entertainment\planetary annihilation\log right?
Waht. That's not the file we're looking for. The file we're looking for is a .txt file with the name format of PA-year-month-day_numbers.txt in %localappdata%\uber entertainment\planetary annihilation\log
here you go? but thats from two days ago of course I was still having the problem then but I haven't been able to launch the game or launcher since I got back a week ago... if it is "launched" it sits there as a black box and doesn't do anything
As I suspected... It tells virtually nil about why it's dieing. It seems like you'll have to reinstall windows bro.
What's windows event viewer telling you? Windows key + R > eventvwr > select various protocols in the top left. Especially system and application protocols might be interesting. Blindly reinstalling is something I would not recommend until the cause of this is found. If some piece of hardware is broken then you would not improve anything with a reinstall.
Yeah, before you do that, you might want to go through the system restore process first. It's a lot less effort than reinstalling the whole OS. And yeah, I imagine those CBS files are rather cryptic. You might be able to upload it if you compress it as a .zip first, but I kind of doubt we can get a lot of info from that. The PA log stops before it actually gets to the part where it accesses the graphics driver, so that's pretty bad. If the system restore doesn't work, you might want to try uninstalling the graphics drivers, reboot, and then reinstall freshly downloaded ones.
sadly I don't have a restore point setup to a point that it would be worthwhile going to instead of a reinstall or just waiting for windows 10... as for eventvwr I got the program running what exactly am I looking for? also while I tried to test if all my games didn't work (some of the older games still work) an interesting error came up of could not initialize direct3D. and then tells me to make sure video drivers are up to date and thing so and so forth which I am sure they are or atleast the program for my video card say it is... anyway let me know if anyone knows anything about a possible Direct3D problem I will also see what the internet says about it aswell, hopefully I can find a solution... thanks for all the help so far aswell
Yeah, I was wondering if your DirectX files got broken somehow. SFC should have fixed that though. You might still want to try uninstalling your graphics drivers, rebooting and reinstalling them in case any of those files got corrupted. As for the event viewer, any errors there with a red circle icon with a white X in it? Or anything related to DirectX of graphics?
http://www.filedropper.com/eventview those are the eventview error page let me know if you need a different file format.... I can also get a link to cbs report and such I shall also try redownloading vid card drivers now
That looks like your HDD is half dead. It wants you to run chkdsk on the volume "Windows 7 Harddrive". get crystal disk info and have a look at what it says about your HDD: http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html If you have any important data on that HDD, now is the time to save it asap.
