I was just thinking, will there be any moons? Has anything been said because I can't remember anything being said about it. They'd essentially be small planets orbiting other planets. Or even something more like large asteroids similar to the moons of Mars. Full blown planets could even orbit a large gas giant Avatar/Pandora style.
Considering there is a Moon in the Visualization, I tihnk it's pretty likely. It's also a potential way to give Gas Giants Land to fight over via an abnormal amount of Moons. Mike
It's hard to say exactly how things will work out, but I imagine a single large planet and a couple moons, plus a small asteroid belt would be a very popular play configuration. Main planet provides solid early on enagement, and the moons and asteroids provide really interesting mid to late game options for expansion, hidden bases, and other sneaky behavior. A moon is, frankly, just a small planet as far as our engine is concerned, so as long as your setup can handle the number of planets you want, whether they be moons or planets is a pretty minor difference. Orbital rotations around a planet, rather than a central star. I try and avoid the word "easy", because things rarely are, but.. "Makes sense" in this case.
For smaller games i agree, but i think the most popular one for larger games will likely be Sun Mercurian Planet Terran Planet (1-3 Moons) Asteroid Belt Gas Giant Ice Planet
Aka Gas Giants are going to become the new island hopping maps where you all start on your own moon(island) build up and then go attack your enemies maybe use the jovian as a source of energy in the late game and use orbital units to some effect in this aswell. As it stands and we dont know everything the other unit sets are going to do which could potentially change how the game is played especially on the more abnormal map setups. But i think we can all agree either way these maps are going to be awesome. I still cant believe they have the core game pretty much made in a little over 6 months! the most rapid development of a game ive seen in a long way!
