Hi, if any of you modders are interested there is something I'd very much like for PA... Now Uber have kindly included the custom formation tool, however if I'm honest it is slow and overly-complex to use so I leave it turned off now. TA:Spring does a similar thing but in an inherently simpler way which doesn't do as much as Ubers implementation but is much faster (and as such more practical to actually use). Their system is simple- select a group of units (as normal) then instead of just right clicking to issue a move order, hold down right mouse and drag a shape (any shape) and the command automatically distributes the units along that line. Hold shift and you can queue up multiple line formations the the tool automatically moves units to appropriate positions on each chain This formation commands would be fantastic in a number of circumstances: 1: It will organise ranged units to get the maximum number in range of 1 target- e.g. a group of tanks or grenadiers in a large circle which then converges on a commander. 2: It's brilliant for scouting as you can queue up a large number of scouts and scout the whole planet in a single wide pass. 3: It's great to spread weaker units out to avoid AOE weapons like flak or vanguards or uber cannons and such. As this tool is already in the game I'm hoping simplifying it so only require 1 action instead of 2 will be easy enough (maybe?). Also the tool should *ignore* the automatic formation system Uber have and should simply distribute the selected units evenly along a line. The Uber system tries to maintain a formation by determining the front- this unfortunately kills the tool in my opinion as it forces units into a rectangular shape irrespective of the shape you draw so circles or other shapes aren't possible- all it actually allows you to do over just a move order is spread your units out a bit more than normal. If anyone thinks they could help and is interested in this tool I'd be happy to go through the Spring version with them as once you've used that implementation there really is no going back.
This, so much this. Also, a total war style line formation tool as well, as that is even quicker and easier than the Spring style custom formation tool. Also check out my old thread on this subject here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/standard-military-hierarchy-and-formations.60684/#post-942656
