I just played a 1v1 game where I marched a large force of tanks at my enemy's base, expecting heavy losses. However, while I was building more factories and preparing for the next wave, I heard the nuclear "kaboom" of the enemy commander being destroyed. I was totally surprised!

A notification that an enemy commander has been located - or, more pertinently, is under attack by your forces - would be useful. That is all.

In my eyes, scouting while keeping track of your offensive units and working on building economy almost entirely sums up the game. To automate scouting would remove a lot from the game. Sure it is hard, it's a lot to keep track of at once and sometimes you get lost, but therein lies the challenge. To let the UI do the scouting for me so to speak, would be removing part of the challenge and thus part of the fun. I want the game to be difficult to master.

I don't mind simplifying minor tasks (like queuing up units in factories, issuing build orders or making patrol a smarter command that lets the fabricators choose between reclaim, repair and assist so i don't have to give specific commands) but scouting, seeing what they build and finding their commanders is a central and crucial part of the game that i don't want taken away from me. It's a huge satisfaction to find commanders and figure out what the best snipe for the given moment is.

Do they have anti air, should i bomb? Where are their units and defenses, can i send a pack of bots through somewhere? Maybe a pelter or a holkins? Can i afford to go nuke or will their units tear through mine unless i keep production up? All decisions based entirely on what intel / info i can gather when i scout.

Part of me likes this, part of me doesn't.

On one hand, it's a nice feature. When you find the commander through scouting with waypoints or something, you're notified.

However, without the feature, you're rewarded for paying attention.

    So I see both arguments.

Personally... I think I like it... Allows the game to be more macro oriented.
