This was extremely confusing and frustrating for me. Those metal spots don't stand out, and for a second I thought I actually had to play where's waldo for every mass spot. Moons were hell. Absolute hell.

This should not be off by default. I don't think it should even be configurable.

Agreed, the first thing I do every game is ctrl-n to get them on.

rather than default, it would be better if it was just an option to turn it on permanently in options, therefor getting your default on (i always turn them on too, but i also think there are bigger problems)=/

I didn't even know it was an option when I started.

The beta may have problems, but try playing this game with the nodes off. I thought it was unplayable.

First thing I do as well. It should at least be an option to toggle, like gunshin said.

i think it should be on by default and have an option of whether or not have them on in the options

It obviously should be on by default with a toggle to be off and not the other way around. New players will want it to be on and if its not there by default won't even know that there is something to activate. On the other hand, getting from seeing something to the thought that maybe one can deactivate is much more logical.

I select mex blueprint and sweep the grounds with it.

Then again, i have no problem seeing them usually, but every few games i sweep to make sure.
