To keep it short and simple: the founders of Wandering Samurai (who both work at Crytek now) have ordered the suspension of further development on MechWarrior: Living Legends. Probably indirectly due to MechWarrior: Online. A "final" patch was released recently, including new features like the free reticle and new content like the Warhawk, Chimera and Solitaire. In order to be able to play MWLL, you technically do not have to buy Crysis Warhead (in order to get Crysis Wars and a valid key). You can use the trial of Crysis Wars as well. And even if you do not have a valid key, there are some servers that require no key authentication. That being said, the community has built a combined installer, that includes both the latest version of Crysis Wars and MWLL. When using this installer, no additional steps are required in order to play MWLL, you should be able to jump right in. Link: MWLL 0.7.1 plus Crysis Wars Trial 1.5 Combined Installer
I couldn't stand the scale of the mechs. A Jenner could sit right next to an Atlas and they'd be about the same height. It's a beautiful game, but that bugged me way too much to continue playing.
