both my control keys are shot on my brand new G710+ keyboard. as an ecologist I don't feel right sending it in for just that. apparently people 3D-print new keys but I don't have a 3D printer and don't intend to invest. is there a shop for plastic key replacement? given the key attachment is standardized (and that they're rather low quality and break easy) I don't why not. yes, I know it looks like lego, it doesn't fit, I tried :
Yeah there are tons of different kinds of aftermarket caps being sold. Try eBay. Edit: apparently it's a "feature" of this board to have your keys break very easily so you might as well search for a full replacement set while you're at it
thanks! E-bay drew hits! http://www.ebay.fr/itm/UV-Printed-C...030?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fac4ae1e they're not backlit but oh well
I tried a G710+ keyboard recently, in my quest for a mechanical keyboard that is both whisper quiet and lets me type at full speed (about 100wpm) - the G710+ was supposed to be whisper quiet, and it was a lot bloody louder than my SteelSeries 6GV2. So I sent it back. All the other bells and whistles on it were very nice but I couldn't justify a £130 keyboard that didn't tick all of my requirements. Anyway, glad eBay worked out for you!
Oh it's loud. but the quietness isn't a factor of the keyboard's case, it's all about what flavor keys are in. G710+ comes with all the available flavours. I have cherry brown for example http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/ maybe give this a look ? http://matias.ca/quietpro/pc/
That quietpro keyboard looks interesting, thanks for the link man! EDIT: crazy expensive though and doesn't come in a UK layout! The search continues!
When looking at cherry MX switchs, you'll want red or black, the others are even louder and both of those are loud. They're the same switch but with different actuation force if I remember right.
At least with red switches you don't need to push the keys to the bottom to get the keystroke so with practise you can use them without making any noise. Some people also strap o-rings to the keys to make them less noisy if it bothers them.
