Currently when you're zoom out and you have construction units setting up a batch of buildings, it can sometimes be a little confusing to know what stage they are at. I was thinking about what could be done with blinking icons: - Icons blink when under construction - The faster they blink, the closer they are to completion - Flashing red indicates they were attacked recently
I support idea about indication of building/units statuses, but I strongly against any blink icons. It's possible might work in game with 100-200 buildings/units, but when you have 400+ it will annoy you a lot. Color indication also won't work because colors used for player/ally/team indication, so we need some other solution.
The blinking would be for in-progress structures, not for the units build the structures, and only after the structures have started construction. I don't foresee that taking up 100-200 friendly structures, but maybe your play style is radically different than mine . Agreed about the colour coding though.
I would rather save blinking for units under attack, I'm sure they can cook up a progress meter that incorporates the strategic icons
Perhaps the blinking could be fade-in-fade-out style blinking if 'normal' blinking would be annoying. Some indicators of attack locations would be handy - eg a 'sonar ping' expanding ring indicator or flashing of the units would be great. I'm sure something is in the plans. What would be nice is a little event listing so you could jump to the source of the event as needed. On multiplanets this would shine. You could set it so that events trigger when you want (eg more than n units have been lost in a location). You could then click on that warning to jump to the location.
