Make Commander useful mid-late game

    Hello

    Let's make Commander useful mid-late game!

    Suggestion:

    Remember supreme commander? We could upgrade Commander's building arm + resource allocation, shield, tactical missile launcher, nuke-tact missile launcher and so on...
    Why not add it to Planetary Annihilation?
    Do you believe that it could be a good addition/game changer for Planetary Annihilation?

    na, prefere a way to end the game instead of having to mop up, oh and upgrades? na.... ~_~

    I think the main way to make the commander useful in mid-late game is decrease his cost so that you can use him aggressively and not have to spend a fortune on repairing him.

    Because upgrades are very hard to make WYSIWYG in a game that is played overwhelmingly at the level of icons where things like changed model diffs or fire effects that worked in, say, C&C Generals will never be noticed.

    All problems like this can be solved if we assume that the game will be played by large teams, so that some players will be zoomed in all the time and able to see the differences.

    As long as we cannot assume this, there will be a limit to the complexity that the devs will be allowed to inject into the game before the 1v1 crowd who insists on playing PA as if it were Dune 2 starts to cry murder.

    It will never be beneficial to look at units that often can't be told apart at a glance (Leveler vs Ant) vs icons which are much easier to differentiate between.

    Maybe you should ask God to mod reality then, so that real soldiers and war machines come with strategic icons in the real world too.

    I'm a solid no - spending time micro managing a single unit is not an addition that will benefit PA

    Yes. The commander is your main unit, your king. We even have cool different models now. It should be significant througout the game.

    The upgrades for your ACU in forged alliance give it an amazing depth, even after 8 years!!

    The game CAN be played by large teams, but 1v1 balance is key to multiplayer gameplay. IMHO

    You keep bringing up Leveler vs Ant when they're easily distingusable from eachother...

    The first thing is the double barrel and thicker turret, not to mention the Leveler is a couple sizes bigger than the ant, it had a nice smooth trim on the back of the tread cover, and just, has the boxy detail bits put in sperate places (more details being on the leveler than the ant) and etc...

    If anyone would have trouble with any unit I'd be slightly more uunderstanding of the scamper and the t2 assault bot. (Honestly it's the morning and I forgot the name, pretty sure it wasn't stomper..)

    Why do we have to have Upgrades?
    Your commander comes with tons of stuff for you to use ... towers walls tanks ... Need more HP ? Build walls vor Mord units need more firepower build artillery need speed build transports vor attackaircraft ...

    PA is about Macro gameplay, not Micro.

    The Commander is already a huge influence in the first 8 minutes of the game, and a couple uber cannons can mean loss or victory.

    Past those 8 minutes, the game is focused more towards macro gameplay, not micro.

    idk, I just have always enjoyed playing FA with the blackops commander upgrades mod - it adds a new dimension to the game, where the upgrades in vanilla FA weren't too great, blackops is excellent. I feel upgrades are necessary to keep the commander relevant late game, he starts powerful compared to t1 tanks, and he needs to finish powerful compared to t2 tanks. The commander IS, after all, the one unit we are supposed to protect, it should be pretty powerful and dynamic.
