I assume that the "blessed" way to control the game is with a mouse and scroll wheel, but I don't have a mouse on my macbook... so I tried playing with the trackpad. It was too sensitive to do anything useful--the slightest two-finger swipe up or down zooms to max and min (very detailed view, or solar system view). Perhaps this can be tweaked a bit so that the trackpad can keep its natural momentum zooming?

Everyone kinda knows trackpads aren't developed for right now.

There's a number of issues with them.

Uber knows about these issues and I'm pretty sure they'll be dealt with eventually. It's just not very high on Uber's list.

I'd recommend buying a mouse anyways. Mice are better than trackpads, especially for gaming. You can get a good mouse for $20-$30. And with Cyber Monday right around the corner you could get a great deal.

This sounds like a user-side configuration

No, Mac trackpad's and lot's of Synaptic based touchpad's have inertial scrolling and inertial zooming, allowing people to flick fingers to scroll and zoom.

My Microsoft touch mouse in windows and mighty mouse in osx 10.9 both do this,.it's embedded in the device hardware.

Only way around this is a standard mouse or a gaming mouse.

Also a new in game camera is being worked on by the developers.
This may solve many of these issues to do with zooming and scrolling :)

Really looking forward to the new camera. It's going to be absolutely awesome. Orbital will be so much more seamless.
